    Hi Naude,

    Nice photo's!

What about a couple of pointers? We are leaving on friday morning, going camping at Hlane - it will be our 1st visit to Swazilnd

    - Your route?
    - Which border posts? Any issues?
    - ID of some of places/routes you visited/used?

    Cheers

    Stephan

I must say that the officials on the Swazi side of the border post at Oshoek are always friendly and efficient.

We saw you guys when you checked out in the morning. I recognise all the vehicles in the picture, if I remember correctly an older gentelman was driving the Ssangyong. Swambo and I stayed in Shonalonga Cottage just to the left of the road, opposite the petrol pump. There was a silver Hilux DC parked infront of the house. Great place, will definately go again.

    Hi Stephan,

As you could see we were a group and I decided not to take any maps or a gps with me as I wanted to relax for a change, be able to take in the surroundings and not worry the whole time if the route I'm taking is the right one and so forth and so forth..... So as for the route we took I can not help you, all I know is that we did not travel on tar a lot. At some point (where we crossed the water) 2 vehicle took a detour as the going got somewhat tough.

We entered at the Mahamba Border Post - slow going on the SA side but a breeze on the Swazi side, and we left Swaziland via the Bulembu Border Post - what a breeze, no hassles what so ever....

Pointers - Entering Swazi on the SA side were one declare all electronic goods, make sure you have the estimated value of the goods separatly. If you travel on the tar, KEEP TO THE SPEED LIMIT, no matter how fast or reckless the locals are driving! Be sure you have your drivers license ( one in our group forgot his...). If you do get pulled over - friendliness gets you far..... (No bribing will be tolerated) You pay the fine on the spot or go to jail.... Finish and klaar.....

Do not miss the turn off to Piggs Peak via the dam wall - you will regret it....
    buy their local Swazi beer....

The camping spots at Hlane are covered with "duwweltjies". There are no lights in the ablution, they do supply a few lanterns that gives a nice atmosphere though. The fire wood is for free behind the ablution, just have to break and carry it yourself and no you may not take some with you when you leave....

Do not get fooled by the distances on a map. If you want to travel say xkm for the day take into account that the speed limit varies between 60 and 100km/h on the tar. It took us 8 hours to travel a mere 280km....

Yes you are correct, the gentleman with the Ssangyong was our "leader". He was truly a great guide as he has visited Swazi many times before and knew of tracks that are seldom traveled.....

And yes we will visit Swazi again....
