    Default Southern Africa Streetmaps V1.5

Just recieved an email from Garmap.
    Anyone got the upgrade yet??

    "WHAT DOES AN UPGRADE COST?

If you’re a registered owner of Southern Africa Streetmaps v1, you will be entitled to a free (excluding the cost of the DVD and shipping) upgrade to v1.5. The cost of upgrading to an earlier mapset depends on which Garmap product you currently own. If you own an older version, for example South African Streetmaps v4, you’re entitled to migrate to the new Southern Africa Streetmaps v1.5 for a nominal R228.00 (inc VAT). Owners of South African Streetmaps v1, 2 & 3 can upgrade for R741.00 (inc VAT), a significant discount on the full retail price. "

"SOUTHERN AFRICA STREETMAPS, TOPO & REC V1.5

Southern Africa Streetmaps, Topo & Rec v1.5 allows the needs of the serious outdoor enthusiast and the pavement pioneer to converge. Topo & Rec includes the routable tar and gravel road network detail for South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho in combination with detailed topographic information - 20m contours, rivers, and forests for seven Southern African countries; all integrated with farm boundary data for South Africa and Namibia.
The detailed topographical and recreational information seamlessly overlays with the streetmap product providing a comprehensive Southern Africa map base for recreational planning and orientation. "

    "SOUTHERN AFRICA MAPSETS
    1. Southern Africa Streetmaps v1 – Free (excluding a R49.00 fee for the DVD)
    2. Southern Africa Streetmaps, Topo & Rec v1.5 - R364.80 inc VAT (If you have a registered copy of Southern Africa Streetmaps)
    3. South Africa Street maps v4 – R228.00 inc VAT
    4. South Africa Streetmaps v1,2,3 – R741.00 inc VAT"

I'm assuming the DVD's etc will be available at the retailers before too long.

Cape Union Mart got the DVD's this morning, but NOT of the SAS Topo and Rec.

Gerhard, my understanding is SAS V1.5 and SAS Topo and Rec v1.5, are exactly the same, except the one has Topo and Rec included?

Why would I want the Rec and Topo at around 350? Whats on it that a 4x4 okie needs? And can it replace Tracks4Africa?

No, it wouldn't be a replacement for T4A, but it has topographical features for the whole of SA, whereas T4A has very limited topo information and what it does have is restricted to some 4x4 trails

I'm busy upgrading to Southern African Street Maps version 1.5 as I type this. Free upgrade for those of you who have the version 1 program. I am also installing the topo upgrade, but not the East Africa, Indian Ocean Islands nor Nigeria, for which I have no need.

The topo upgrade is some R350 (forgot the exact amount) additional, well worth the small fee, IMHO.

Installing to a GPSMAP 276C with additional memory.

    Nice to have both.

The same area (Kouga Dam / Komdomo) first as per T4A, then as per the old Topo (new one is even better):

Well, I have updated to SAS V1.5 SA Topo and Rec. NICE!!! And now combining it with T4A it makes the pair a VERY good combination!

    JD,

If you can find any other user who has the Upgrade DVD, you can use that. The DVDs are not encoded to be unique to any specific GPS. In your case, the u/g will be free (and it is worth it), but if you want the topo then it will cost you an addidional R365 or thereabouts, (also worth it!).

You can of course "borrow" a mates copy, and then load it....... remember, if you have SAS vs 1, then the SAS vs 1.5 software is free to upgrade, so you will not be infrindging on any copy rights - me thinks.

    Hey Wade,

Jump into your Hilux & skeddadle over here, then I'll do it for you

Did mine yesterday, the maps seem to be a lighter shade as well now, unless it's because of the topo software.

If you have the original T&R, then the SA V1.5 T&R is R295....

Got SAS vs 1.5 loaded yesterday too. Got a copy from Cape Union Mart here in Bloem. From discussion on the Garmap forum, it would appear that Cape Union Mart and Due South seam to be the most jacked.........

.......and then of course for those of you who reside in Klerksdorp, I've heard from a realiable source that REPCOM have stock too......
