    Default The Happily Married Thread

I have no objection about the divorce threads that pops up every now and then, but as one of the happily married oaks, I do think happily marrieds needs some bandwidth too.

I never intended to marry back then. I had no interest in girls.. I was an engineering student and focused on gears, wheels and finishing my studies in 4 years. But then there is fate or whatever you like to call it...

Me and SWAMBO are a youngly married couple going for 14 years on 19 December. I met her just over 17 years ago, truly love at first sight (which I did not believe in) and asked her 2 months after I saw her the first time in my life, to marry me. And she said yes. I cannot live without her and would find it blessing to die with her at the same instant. But I hope we still have a few decades together.

Ok, we had enough tough times together too. Married with very very little money. We basically had a queen size bed, 6 plastic chairs, an old microwave oven, a new fridge, a very old Jetta, and a toaster with some plates, cups, knives and forks and a 3-disk Radio CD player (which we still use) as main possessions to start off with for a long time. SWAMBO had ill health for just about most of our relationship from the day I met her. And some more. But we were determined to pull through.

On the other side she is very bright and stimulating conversation on most topics (she can't talk hours about Tupperware with the other ladies on the braais). She is gorgeous without makeup and therefore use it very subtle when she freaks out. As much as she has particularly fine taste in clothes for a hard working day, she just as easily switch to slacks for weeks when we indulge in camping. In the latter area, she is a genius with packing light and she loves traveling to the middle of nowhere when we get the chance.

With that, she is unable to break the limit of a credit card in the biggest shopping mall even with the most dreadful threats from my side, to do so.

And she gave me 2 awesome children.

I love my wife and if she was the girl of my dreams 17 years ago, she is now the only girl in my dreams 17 years later.

I think he must have bought a new 4x4 and still has to gently break the news to SWAMBO...

Nice one, Biltong! Congrats on your harmonious relationship.

I have seen your JK. It is not 22 years old.

For me and SWAMBO, 35 years, and I am still not the boss.

Biltong, ek en manlief is al 35 jaar getroud. Nog net so lief vir hom soos toe.

Dis she kept you waiting for an answer for 3 years, or did it take 3 years to plan your wedding?

No. She still drives her 1999 disco 1 Tdi. Not due for replacement for years. And btw. She don't read here.

Beloved and I are happily unmarried. Owing to previous bad experiences I think we are staying that way. We enjoy living in sin. It sounds so much better that way. We sin a lot too.

I do love her, and she's the only girl that can handle me.

I love her so much I didn't even kill her when she filled my jeep up with diesel...

    Congrats on 5000 posts fluffy

Just remember guys, in SA you'd have been released after 5 years if it had been murder... You must have done something really wrong to be in this long...

Ek is nou maar eers 8jaar getroud met my eerste vrou. My plan is om enduit die pad met haar te stap. Wil dit nie anders hê nie. Steeds lief vir haar. 3 pragtige meisiekinders (so ver).

I won't gush about the other one seeing as this is his log in and all.

10 years - we got married because we had to, in the eyes of the law in the UK at the time, if you could be married you should be.

All I can say is on Afrikaans: "Swambo is 'n doring". Wouldn't have it any other way. Not always easy but always worth it.
