    Default Side Wall Cut

    Hi

When does one know when your side wall has been cut to deeply and could be dangerous.

I have Pirelli Scorpions on the bakkie.

The cut is 3cm, but you only see it when you have the cut at the bottom of the tyre, meaning when the side of the cut is touching the ground.

Does the Scorpions have reinforced Side Wall protection like BF Goodrich?

I haven't even been offroad so dont know how this happened!

The Safest will be to replace the tire! Remember all the mass is on the sidewall and can be dangerous.

    Default Tyre

See if there is a Bandag dealer in your area or ask the guys where you can get truck tyres re-treaded (versool).
I had a sidewall cut that was not too big in my one Cooper. The vulcanized it for me and I use it as a spar now. If the cut is not very deep it is OK, sometimes it is just a surface cut. But rather let a tyre guy check it out for you.

If you cannot have it vulcanized you ask them to attach a patch on the inside in the area of the cut and put a tube in, you can then use it as a spare as well.

It all depends on exactly where on the sidewall and how long the cut is. If you say it is not all the way through yet it might really be only a surface thing.

Trentyre may also be able to help you there. I once had a set of 12" tyres which they retreaded for me with a more agressive tread pattern I had selected from the available range, ie I received some personal service from them! 8)
