    Default Namibia trip report : 31 March - 17 April 2012

    Hi,

I've recently returned from a two week overlanding trip to Namibia - the time was spent camping, birding and relaxing.

    I've attached a trip report - hope it's not too long-winded

    Cheers,
    David

Thanks David, great report and nice bird sightings. Thanks also for your comment about speeding on gravel roads, a major bugbear of mine - how anyone thinks they can be safely in control at over 100km/h is beyond me. For future reference, there's a Dunlop agent as you come into Otjiwarongo from the north, and they sorted out our balance and alignment for us while we had breakfast next door at Anton and Wanda Esterhuizen's Cafe Estreux.

    Very nice report. Thanks!

Can you maybe comment on the cost of camping at the places where you have camped?

Thanks David for a very polished report. I particularly liked the look of Bloed Koppe. We have not yet been there.

    Thanks everyone.

Tony - thanks, we tried that Dunlop dealer. We arrived at 11:30am (it was a Saturday) as the manager was leaving for the day... He said their alignment technician was off... I think he just wanted to head home to catch some Super Rugby...

Bogaards - I've attached part of our costing spreadsheet below - it outlines the itinerary, accommodation costs and rough distances.

About Africa - copy that! Where exactly are you? I'm marrying a Namibian so will almost certainly drive past your gate again

Mistral - the scenic shots were taken with a Canon muk and druk (not sure what model) and the bird photos with a Canon 40d and 300m f4 - some pics with a 1.4 converter.

Sandbug - wrong person - there are a few DWs floating around...

David - Having problems opening your spreadsheet? Is this Microsoft Xcel file?
    Says format not recognized??

    Hi David.

Only yesterday me and my wife decided to plan a trip to Nam for next year Jun - Jul. We will be travelling with a T/Fortuner (2x4). How many of the roads you travelled were not accesible with a 2x4.

    Regards

    Andre

    Thumbs up

    hi David
We found your article interesting and very true to our own experiences of Etosha. Very sad to hear you just shot past Walters (AboutAfrica) Rostock Ritz. We had such a good time. Kind staff and beautiful views, with the porcupine coming in the lounge for dinner. We are driving up to Nam on the 25 June 2012. Most folks drive clockwise around Nam, but we have always driven anti-clockwise. I guess there's no traffic hold ups this way round. Lol. @ Walter, we will be staying with you on 6 July. So eager to get packing.

Oh yes, good tip about letting the tyres down to 1.8
