    Default Dyno Tuning

    Hi all,

Following Herbie's post on "Disco 1 V8 - LAZY" I took my RR to a few Dyno shops for advice:
1st one told me that they recommend fitting a freeflow and branches as my existing system was shot. Quoting me R5000 for a w/cat system and dyno tuning. On chipping he said he would not recommend as they don't get revs out of the vehicle. Not worth it.
I took it for a second oppinion who told me my exhaust system is fine except for the back part which needed replacing. They guy however said that he is not sure how to Dyno tune my RR and asked me to check with Land Rover whether it would be fine to connect the proshalft to the front diff in order to skip the (visco?).
He quoted me R2400 for chip and R450 for the tail-end pipe.
I stopped at Land Rover and they adviced me to look for a Dyno machine with 2 rollers (front & back) for 4X4. They only knew of such a system in PTA (none in Durban).
I drove to Powerflow who then also checked my system and recommended I only replace my back two boxes as the front stuff and manifolds were still fine. So I told them to go ahead. R1700 later (freeflow stainless).
Sounds more smooth but too soon to comment on power & consumption.
I might go for branches later on as $$$ = low.

Getting back to the Dyno tuning - how do you dyno a permanent 4X4s like mine?

    Thanks
    Pierre

you need to find performance guys who deal with permanant 4WD, so for durban i suggest you phone someone like Romic Subaru and find out what dyno they use. They arent just a dealership.

    Hi Pierre

For what it's worth, I did not have my Disco Dyno tuned - merely had a guy who knows what he is doing tune it, i.e. set the timing and air fuel mixture to the correct levels (read Elrico - free advertising!).

Chances are your timing and mixture is correct, in which case you want to look at the next level. If not, find a guy who knows Landy V8's and let him do his thing - should cost a lot less.

Good luck - hope you get sorted soon!

Thanks guys - don't think mine is too far out on performance levels now.
Will see how towing goes this coming long weekend with the new exhaust.
Will try and stick to 3rd gear and 'Drive' on downhills and straight.

    Regards
    Pierre

I had the Prado at Dastek in PTA the other day. They have a dual dyno for testing 4x4 vechiles.

When we want to put it on the on a 2 wheel dyno, we put the Transfer case lock on and take off the front propshaft.

Thanks Henris. The guys over here seems to only know about that Dyno yes but none in Durban. I will still go and check out Berty's info on Romic Subaru. As far as the diff lock goes - mine doesn't have one.

    Thanks
