    Default The old postal route

Patrick has written an artical in the latest SA 4x4 about the Old Postal Route in the Cederberg conservancy.
He Calls it Return to Sender.
I had done this in about 2000, and after reading his article, i am longing to do it again.
There is a bit of organising, but out in the wilderness is a calming experience.

Hele roete het so 2 uur 40 minute gevat.

We did the old postal route today, we didn't know about the blue gum tree (still) blocking the way. Managed to move some bigger branches and edge around it. It was really a Huge bluegum!

All in all it was a very easy track, we could have done the whole thing in a 4x2 Bakkie choosing your line carefully and mantining momentum through the short sandy bits. Infact we met up with a chap in a corsa Bakkie who wanted to drive with us in order to do the route, and as he couldn't turn back, we assisted him along. We had to give him a tug on two occasions, and he lost a tyre to a cut sidewall. Other than that he got through with out a scratch.

It was beautiful, very stark environment. Reminded me of the Richtersveld.

No permission needed or fees, it is a council Road. Just bear in mind the big bluegum tree is in the way and it takes the better part of 4 hours to do the trail.

Sover ek verstaan, mag hulle nie eintlik daardie hekke sluit nie maar ek sal ook nie like as vreemde mense heeltyd hier deur my erf kom ry nie.
