    Marius,
Thanks for the info on these gear ratios. Does the 8-speed V6 TDI have the same gearbox and diff ratios as the V8TDI

His suspicion is that these are Tregs which have had water enter the diff via the breather. The breather is clipped to the air filter box, but is easily forgotten and left dangling by a careless mechanic. He is working on a method to replace the bearings in the differentials, rather than being forced into a whole new unit by VW.

    2. He mentioned that new air struts (complete units), are 50% cheaper from Porsche compared to VW/Audi in RSA.

    3. There are apparently a fair amount of oil leaks happening on the V6 TDI CASA engines (mostly the new generation Treg's). The leaks are from the cam chain housing at the rear of the engine. Repair is a massive procedure requiring engine removal.

    4. Not aware of any issues with the new V8 TDI's.

    5. Dead opposed to EGR blanking. Don't do it!
    Hi Kortgat

did you perhaps discuss if and when one should change the ATF fluid gearbox?

I have been unhappy with the rebound of the air suspension for a while.

I have done all bushes except for the lower control arm front bushes which seemed fine when I did the other ones.

So yesterday afternoon and I jacked up the car and looked for play and found play on that bush.

So I pulled the lower control arm quickly and surprise surprise the bush is fine.

Sat back and thought about the play and then it hit me.

The bolt has play in the barrel of the bush.

So, I have to order some eccentric bolts from VW - R109 each!

I'm wondering If I shouldn't order the bushes as well as the bush barrel might be worn. But I suppose doing the bolts is easy. If that doesn't fix it, I will pull the arm again and change the bushes.

PS : I was very upset that I had to reassemble with those dud components as I need the car tomorrow.

So if you feel a loud thud when going over a bump as if the air suspension is rebounding too hard, jack up the wheel and wiggle the wheel while holding at 3 & 9 o'clock positions. Then look at the lower control arm front bush for play.

Ok so the Cape 2 Cape Touareg world record setters left the Cape this morning at 10h00. They will be coming through Johannesburg around midnight tonight. This time around I won't be there to greet them.

So I'm spending the weekend with friends at the Eagle Rally.
Told the fiancé she and her friend could take the Touareg to Cape Town to fech the wedding gown.

    I get a call...
She parked at an incline sidewas and when she closed the door she pulled the handle right out from the door...
What can I say. It's an accident.

    - Instand Weekend killer...
Words cannot explain my feelings right now.

Am concerned about colour differences and quality of newer replacement parts.

Ouch. Mine has obviously suffered the same fate in the past. Previous owner fixed it with coach bolts. Looks a bit crude but lasted over 50k kms so far. Would like to fix it properly so any tips from your fix would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Hope its not too pricey and difficult.

    I will do so Marius.
This will have to be fixed bofore the wedding in two weeks time.

Thing is, I understand exerted forces and my Jetta started showing cracking around the drivers side door handle a while back.

Since then I always hook in my right index finger inthe door handle closest to the door hinges and then pull it closed that way.

Must be a weak part. Are you going to try and fix it or replace? Looks like a new inner panel?

I don't want to lap&plak anything on my Touareg.
I will just have to order the part.
From what I could find it looks like a separate part for just the handle. But quotes on the internet shows a cost of $92.26

That's a relief! Wonder what a whole new inner panel would cost!

I see the panel alone is over $1000.

Hope I am not high jacking this thread.
I am looking at perhaps getting Toureg 2010/2011 3L Tdi.
I see the 2011 looks upgraded?
Do they all come with air suspension? Is there a big difference between this and normal vehicle suspension.
Please give me the good and bad.
    Appreciated.

Drive 4 or 5 examples. Buy the best one.

If you can get one with air suspension, go for that.

    They are awesome cars!
