Agree.. and Wegsleep, but that is more for the overlander/camper. We don't have a mag for the donga warrior anymore. There's a market for these okes to release a fourth mag

no magazine about cars can be objective about cars.i think it's impossible.if they try all of the sponsors and advertisers for specific brand will pull out.there is no such thing as i give you money and you trow rocks at me.only small portion of revenue comes from sales.

Hoffie you think we should get XJJ as editor, I am sure it will be politically correct if we make him ed..... I can almost see the headline of article one.... How many lawnmovers can you fit in a Datsun..... or perhaps how to take your frotuna from the mall to a trail..... ect

    It will be great....

eMail in from Danie @ Leisure Wheels. We are ALL human after all.

    Dear 4x4 community members

If I was Japanese, I would probably be pushing daisies right now after indulging in a round of harakiri. Since I’m not Japanese, I will instead stand with my hat in hand, and apologise for the factual error regarding the Jeep Wrangler Sahara’s front suspension, which is clearly not an independent set-up.

I can provide you with about 27 variations of excuses for this error. They range from reasonably viable to slightly absurd. So I’ll spare you the excuses and just suffice with the following: I had every intention to double check the information (that I received thanks to a misunderstanding) before going to print. However, I managed not to do it at all. And now all I can say is: My sincere apologies to all concerned. We will publish a correction in the June issue too. Again, I can only say sorry – and possibly claim temporary insanity, induced by a very tough deadline!

On the various issues raised about Leisure Wheels’ focus on women and the Bush Babes: we most certainly take note of your opinions, and appreciate your input.

    Humbly yours

    Danie, LW

Almost like saying editors shouldn't be human?

Well done Danie. I think there's a couple of posts above worth taking note of.....

When I bought my first d/c bakkie I was introduced to this forum. The best thing any enthusiast can do,despite some oddballs and their comments :-)
I was then introduced to leisure wheels and bought it every month and enjoyed it.However at this point of knowing a bit more than i used to i start finding it a bit stagnant.
I think variety is key.Yes they can test all cars and give feedback,great....What about the things that guys add to their vehicles be it a bumper,shocks,l/r tanks etc, chips or even fridges. Why not put a few brands out their, test then against one another and tell us what you found about then, just like testing a car over another.
If you test something like the pajero or prado, dont just take it on tar and dirt roads.Let a pro take it on a 4x4 track and give his opinion. In the past you did the softroader article and I enjoyed reading that as it gave good account of all the cars and which one did what well etc.

We need to realise that journalists is first and foremost folks that can write a good story..... not nessasarily technical experts on the topic (not that i am saying it's an excuse).

A magazine should be entertaining as well as informative, sometimes i feel to much empasis is on the 'entertainment' part rather the informative part.
A road test should be MORE informative (Factual) and less entertaining (opinions)...

I also get upset when they make mistakes, but I look at it from the point that it is not a dedicated 4x4 magazine. Such mistakes will be inexcusable in SA4x4 for example. I also know from personal experience that Danie and the other staff from Leisure Wheels do a great job in promoting the 4x4 industry without being too biased to certain manufacturers. Keep up the good work, Danie.

Absolutely, but mags should have field editors, someone who knows something about overlanding,or offroad trailers,or 4x4 vehicles etc. They should rather use the info given by the field editor instead of what they perceive if they dont know how to properly test products.I would not spend R600k on a offroad vehicle if i read a test of it driven on a tar road.
At the end leisure wheels is not a bad mag at all and has had some very informative articles over the time I have read it.I think they promote the leisure lifestyle well and congrats to them on that.I just think its time they step it up a notch for the more informed readers (not that I am one yet).
Imagine using Zantus (sorry for using you as example)or the likes to test some of their vehicles.People we can associate with and trust for a real life experience.
