Pump and injectors done!! R5200. Not bad considering the BMW 320d I picked up for a mate at the same place had 4 injectors done..R13000.00

    Also Motorite is covering R3000.

So Maxis Bighorns are in the order of the day!!

Will jot down any differences after I get the vehicle back.

@Petur the bakkie has 240k on the clock

My 2005 Ranger 2.5 td double cab with a canopy and around 150000km on the clock gets between 8.5 and 9.3 kilometres per litre, all depending on how I drive, but average is around 8.7 most of the time. Last fill-up was 9.36. I did get 9.6 going down to St Lucia last year at average speed of between 120 and 130 km/h.

Thats good. The best I managed to get with mine and with the canopy fitted was 8.5 before the muds.

Do you have a snorkel fitted?

No, its stock standard at the moment. My first mod will be a long range tank and then hopefully early next year a SAC stage 2 conversion.

Just normal tyres. I don't have the SAC specs at home and I can't quite remember, so I will post it tomorrow. I do know it includes an intercooler, which I am after.

Thats the difference between yours and mine.Like I have stated previously. When I had my my AT tyres on, the best was 8.5.And now with muds the best is 8.So to show that tyres does make a hudge difference in diesel usage.

Whats the cost going to be on the stage 2 conversion from sac?

    1. Town Driving +-9.5-10.5 km/L
    2. Open Road - 10 - 11km / L & +- 130km/h
    3. Last Weekend before my cyllinder head issue (51000km), averaged 9.9km/L with a off-road trailer from Bloem to Williowmore (didnt make it back to Bloem though) @ 100 - 120km/h
    4. Just filled up a full tank of Shell 50ppm diesel in my replacement (exactly the same model, withh less mileage (43 000km) - will post when i fill up again!

    Right,

1st Tank fill-up on the 'new' ranger (2010 Supercab 4x4 3.0 TDCi with 43597km) was with SASOL 50ppm, consumption was 9.5km/L or 10.5L/100km)

Average over 5 re-fuels, town and open road driving, taking new fuel price into account (please excuse any mathematical errors, was a SG genius ):

    • - Avg Mileage: 399.74km
    • - Avg Cost: R 525.57 (4/5 re-fuels were 50ppm)
    • - Avg Litres: 43.85 L
    • - Avg Consumption: 9,03km/L or 10.96L / 100km

I thought these figures were a little high, so on Wed 9 May I put in a new air filter (all of 2 minutes and 216 south african ronts worth)

Filled up today, as I like to fill up every Friday and stats were:

    Shell 50ppm V-Power Diesel
    Litres: 30L @ 12.48/L
    Cost: R374.40
    Km: 312.9km
    Consumption: 10.4km/L or 9.5L / 100km!

Very chuffed with that 2 days after a new filter, i also think that the last filter was not set properly in the box. So interested to see what the next fuel-up with show!

So just out of interests' sake:

    • With an extra 1.37km/L, over 80L, its an extra is 110km per tank or,
    • Saving 1,46L /100km @ R 12.48/L, that is R 18.22 per 100km and on a tank of say 750km, its R 136,65 per month for me.

Which means that by Christmas I would have saved R 1088 South African Ronts on fuel alone, and would only have to pay in R2012 South African Ronts for my Safari Snorkel. So looks like the White Lady is getting a nice Christmas present!

    Have a lekker weekend all!

    and......

Hi guys I've heard so many stories about running my ford ranger 2500 TDI on a mix of diesel and paraffin or on 100% paraffin mixed with 2 stroke or engine oil , is there any truth to this or will I just be wasting my time and money

Stay away from cheap diesel or paraffin mixtures.
Rather put the proper fuel in, you may save now but later it will bite you.

After some adjustments and bigger intercooler my consumption is approx same on 500 and 50 diesel, so 50 goes in and I take my foot a bit off the pedal. The 10 k/h slower is not bad on time and the consumption get below 10l/100km with 50 diesel.

2008 Ford Ranger 3.0TDCi double cab with canopy 160 000km on clock

Filled up when i got it. 2weeks later and its on 630km and the needle is hovering around quarter empty. Light not on yet. Will check back when filled up and got a consumption reading. Its mostly mixed driving would say 60 % town and 40% hiway.
