    compare battery A-hour ratings.

Can the units accomodate larger (higher capacity) batteries?

Check each unit - HOW does it inform you that it is recording ?? (happens too easily that you think you stop the recording, yet it keeps going. Then when you press the button to start recording you actually stop recording ..... this happens !

I can swap memory cards between my GoPro, Canon video camera and Canon camera - NOT sure if this is possible with the Sony models.

PS - the GoPro is NICE, but the zoom of a video camera is very handy.

also find out what file formats each camera use - mostly it was mp3, newer models might be using mp4 format. this impacts on what software you use to edit the movies.

Sony Vega 9 HD is only R450 at Incredible Coruption. STUNNING software !! I used the previous version for mp3 files, but had to upgrade due to mp4 files ....

sadly does not really help you choose between the brands though.

but hopefully helps you to ask a few more questions.

as for brands .... even though I drive Toyota, I will just as easily drive any other brand .... but when it gets to photographic equipment I only look at Canon ...... (even though I recently did get a friend to rather buy a Sony bridge camera)

I have an older model Sony and that thing has been through a lot and it is still going.

Only problem I have with the LCD screens is that most of them is EXTREMELY difficult to see in full daylight.
Take each camera outside and give it a test. Try to get a white wall behind you and in full sunlight and have a look then.

I liked the Sony for the software and also that my still camera is also a Sony, so swapping cars is easy.

Generally the optics on the Canon should be better.

Also try the stabelizing on all the units. Ask the sales guy if you can record and then go max optical zoom. Then DL an see how each one compare.

Also have a look at the charger. My Sony can only charge a battery if it is already on the camera. So if you have 2 batteries, you can not charge one while using the other.

Wetkit same issue with charging batteries on my Canon - also has to be in the camera.

I need to check but I also think with the Canon it has to be connected to the charger if you want to connect the camera to a tv for large viewing of the videos diectly from the camera.
