I have heard about private individuals assisting Kariega with patrols, it is maybe time that we contact some of the targeted reserves and see if we cannot assist. I have been thinking about it for a while, it however is not without risk.

I am pretty sure there are many people here who would like to contribute to the fight against the poaching.

Ja, it is something that has crossed my mind too.

Perhaps we can start with an organised National Convoy to hilight the plight!

    Just thinking aloud here.

The situation is just so desperate, these guys have been fighting for the life of this Rhino for weeks. At least the female is recovering well and looks as if she will survive with little side effects. Mentally we will never know though.

'n Rhino sticker, ja dit is ok, daar ry baie mense met stickers rond, maar wat is die punt. Almal weet dit gebeur, ek dink die probleem het nog publisiteit nodig nie, ek dink daar is meer aksie nodig.

Ek gaan bietjie navraag en navorsing doen in die week.

I'm sure that 25000 members give or take can come up with some kind of massive statement.

Personally, attaching a few poachers to a few bumpers with recovery straps and heading off in convoy gets my vote.

Apparently that kind of thing does not send out the right message , I don't understand why, but apparently we'll get into trouble...

    Any better ideas?

I was following Dr Fowlds blog for a while about this and I feared that the male would not survive Shocking what is happening to the heritage of our country!

I agree, it is about time we made some sort of huge statement, bumper stickers is just too little. As Stockman mentioned, maybe a national rally highlighting the plight, try and get someone from international news station like SKY to cover it.

Or we could go to China and gouge out the eyes of a few Panda's, I believe the are a good aphrodisiac, thata might get the attention of the chinese who seem to want these toe nail clippings!
Not very PC I know but I aam really p'eed off about this, time for more than a bumper sticker and facebook "Likes"

Let me just say that I don't want this thread to be a rant and rave one, I would like this to form the basis of a collective effort to voice our opinion in an organised manner.
So, if you think your posts don't match this theme, then please do some self moderation?

Any constructive ideas though will be appreciated!

The problem is to come up with something worth while.

Between social media you can come up with probably thousands of cars in a protest rally in major centers. We could probably stop traffic for hours .

    Won't do a thing.

I'd like to see a big campaign to take out the 'buy this peace of trash for R39 and help the rhino' small print 'we donate R1,50 for every piece of rubbish we sell'

They are not much better than the poachers to be honest.

    What is meaningful and effective?

What about patrols in the area? Movement in the area will hamper their movements.

That is the way I am thinking. I can relate this to a standard neighbourhood watch. In 2008 in the suburb I live in there were on average 35 crime incidents per month. During the past 4 years with active patrols we have reduced that to less than 5.

    HOWEVER.

This needs to be a properly organised effort, there are already several groups doing it, and before everybody runs off and try their own thing my recommendation would be that we try and slot in with somebody already established, or with reserves requesting help direct.

I will do research this week, starting with Will and moving onwards from there, luckily I have a few contacts directly involved.

There seem to be 2 threads with the same title?

Perhaps we can consult henk on this. He seems to be very involved with the rhino efforts with the honorary rangers...

Every time I read or see something like this it makes me irate out of anger for these bastards!!! But I ask myself the question, "what can I do to help?"

I have contributed money to more than one organisations, but it seems it is a wasted effort. If someone can just come up with effective plan of how individuals or the public can help.
