Default WJ ... a build thread ... of sorts

So, I bought these last week off gumtree ... a real "geluk" considering the price I paid for them.
    Front ...

    Back ...

So I phone Gomad/Nomad and ask if they can fit .... yes they can, in about 2 - 3 weeks time ... I don't want to wait that long.
So I phone R&D, they can squeeze me in on Thursday but they need the Jeep for two days, oh well I can live with that ... great, booked the Jeep in.
Sitting at home on Friday night, discussing the Jeep with SWAMBO, she says to quote Jeremy Clarkson "How hard can it be?" for you to fit the bumpers. So being the every diligent husband, I decided to tackle it on Saturday ... in amongst the 1 year old's birthday parties, and SWAMBO going to baby showers.
Got a question about the front ... anybody else fit an aftermarket bumper to their WJ Limited, the original front bumper has the grill insert as part of the bumper, what did you do in that case?
This is my progress ... If I don't get it right, at least I still have the booking for Thursday
    Before:

    After some work

On baby duty ... the monitor my connection to my son sleeping in his room ... when he is old enough, he will be outside with dad ... with the tools

I split my grille and bumper, using a dremmel tool with a cutting attachment, Allan. Running with only the grille in place, as I have the crazy notion in my head to build my own bumper. The Nomad/Gomad is my favourite among the established manufacturers for the WJ, but is way to expensive for my budget. Shout if you need help.

    Thanks Thys!

I've got the Dremel, so maybe cutting is an option. I also have a lead on a grill off gumtree, in the right color nogal.

    Sent you PM

So Thys came over last night ... we tried to fit the front bumper, only to find that I need to widen the holes. So that will be Wednesday morning's job ... hope my neighbors don't mind a little noise early in the morning.

But some good news ... it looks awesome with the new bumper ...

    Allan,

Haven't been here for a while... and what a nice surprise.

Looks like you got bargain! Can't wait for the before and after picture comparison.

Please take some close ups for me on the rear bumper as I still want to make one as well?

    Enjoy your new toys!

Default The long awaited pics ....

First attempt at getting the bumper on ... using my bike lift, it broke (bike lift is defective-need to relook at it). So we left it for another day.

Round two: used block and tackle ... worked like a charm.

Lining it up, a quick kick here and there ... it still not fitting...

A small modification needed, nothing a hacksaw, hammer and attitude can't cure.

My 7 month old son is concerned about what Daddy is doing to the Jeep ...

End result - success I would say.

    Refitting, realignment ...

Putting in the bolts ... still a problem with alignment ...

Out comes the hacksaw, hammer and attitude again ...

    Thats better!!!

Fitted with out an issue ...

Another modification required ... this time the drill did the trick

Lift with block and tackle ... lined up, now just to get the bolts lined up ...

The final product ... fitted ...

The Jeep's first outing with the new hardware ...

The Jeep definitely needs to be lifted again ... the 2" lift now looks like 1".

Well done Allan. It looks the part with the strong bumpers, but I agree that she looks a bit low now - all in good time. Are those Ironman coils?

Thanks XJJ! yeah she is a bit low. I'm in the process of investigating the new lift ... will definitely be 4". Looked at 6.5" but that is too much and requires ALOT of other work. The 4" will need a longer prop (read double cardon) and maybe the control arms to be replaced. I'm looking at all the available ones, Zone, Iron Rock, Rough Country, Rocky Road ... lots to choose from.

Yes they are Iron man coils.

No need to be jealous ... if you ask really nicely, I know of a couple of people who will be manufacturing ...
