Kyleu with my Dad, leaving the ford behind, fridges, panels, battery packs.

Only taking cooler boxes for beer and food, 2 tents(I snore after a few beers), my Dads new Jimny and my 2010, with a new addition, as per pic below, as a 3x3 Gazebo wont fit inside and I am a bit wary on the roof rack.Click image for larger version.

Hi Mark, how are the facilities there? I regularly go into Rietvlei itself for photography, and I am on the FB group, but they make it sound quite bad. I know you have been before from previous comments you've made so I would like a first hand account. TIA

At the campsites there is no power and the ablutions are very basic with only cold water. We are self sufficient so don't need ablutions. Other than that it's pretty chilled. The fisherman all camp down at the water but there are a number of sites further back if you are not a fisherman. Sometimes the blaring music can get out of hand! Good mountain bike trail that I enjoy and then visits into the reserve as well. But have not been since lockdown so will see how it goes this weekend.

Anyone been to Roratau before? Our first outing and it is just outside the Dinokeng area with apparently a few lion farms around, thus the roar of the King is one of the highlights I'm looking forward to. Luckily on the other side of the Hammanskraal doef-doef, but you have to travel the very dangerous Moloto road.

The guys have developed a new "bushcamp" called Vlakvark and is about 100m from the rest of the camping or fixed tented areas. It has a private ablution, boma and 3 x 6A power points available.

Vlakvark is where we will share with 2 other families, Friday to Tuesday. So looking forward to an extended camping weekend before the cold sets in.

    Be safe and have fun.

We camped there over Easter weekend, will definately go back again. We camped at "Jakkals" and it's opposite the entrance to Vlakvark. Ablutions and the camp are spotless, each stand has a power point and braai area, you can buy wood and ice there. There is a small pool to cool down.

Lions roared every night, we heard hyena and jackal as well. You can book a game drive and they'll take you to see the lions and some other game, I don't like seeing animals in cages, but ja.... The night sounds are a high light, just a pity they're caged up.

    But it's worth the visit.

Oh, take a stand for your rooster as you braai on the ground.
