Now now, children from north of the "Borrie curtain".

Here is the link for the video that the 'Old Uncles' arranged of Pieter going up ‘Gert se Klip’ in a 4x2 with no low range.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYD3W...ature=youtu.be

It could have been posted earlier, but we 'Old pharts' really didn't think of it as THAT a bigger deal.........

Maybe the Mods can re-name this 'fred' to something like "Kids from Pretoria do Gert se Klip in 4x2 Kia, clap, clap, clap" ...... so that us ‘Old Timers’ don’t ‘low jack’ the youngsters thunder.(If you dont want others to post on 'your' threads, perhaps you can BBM each other instead )

Don't forget to wipe behind those ears and tighten those bolts now .......

Now let’s see how long it takes the youngsters to fall over …… hehehehehe

Default Video - Gert se klip in 4x2

    O.K, O.K all chill.
I think that anyone who does it in a 4x2 can be proud.
I think that Kia did very well.
I think Pieter would have done better if he'd gone more to his right
(but seeing Ryno directing explains why he took the wrong line).
I think going up on the right is easier than the left.
I think anyone in a 4x4 who does not make it should find another hobby.
I think that anyone who thinks Gert Se Klip is tough should do Obstacle #10 (Survivor) at Bosvark on the WoesRand
'cos that's a lot more difficult than Gert se Klip.
    That's what I think...

    Hay Manny
My first 4x4was also one of those Kia Sportage's, also a 1999, green one, back in 1999
The vehicle is awesome, took it to the Geroteck test track and had tons of fun, ask Shans, she has plenty stories of where that car went ;-) hehehehe

Eurard, So when we going to Kudukloof ?? (I see another outing in the making)

Ray with your rediculous angles you should have a royal time there.

Not soon, we are now doing Moegatle, Brakkeduine (PE) then Berrakah. Pretty much lekker booked up.

Stil want to squeeze a de wildt in as well, eish.

But yeah Ray someone with your cars stats should have a problem at most places.

Kudukloof still for me remains 1/2 conquered. We did down, up was a mess turned around and went back up the other way. THANKS RYNO, ha hah a I think it can be renamed Kimberley after that LR was done with it. Dirk went first and with all the electronics got up, just. Then it was revenge of the limping TRC ... now you see it ... now you dont ... monster. Although I think a certain someone has unsettled business and VW might rain its wrath on there said Kudu!

Up to this date, I have yet to see or experience anything remotely as fierce as KUDU, Tier itself is 2nd by far then probably Triton hill. Where will Gertjie fall in this category?

So hopefully now al the Jimny, ML and Q7 drivers will stop bragging about doing it with their 4x4s....

it is an achievement for an obstacle that has so much said about it.

If money wasn't an option I would try all sorts of silly things but if you don't have money to spare then doing those things is a sure way to place enormous strain on your diff and possibly break it.

2 tons of momentum has to be controlled by the contact point at these 2 gears' teeth (not to mention the torque on the pinion shaft's bearings).

I don't think it was silly. And I didn't put any loads on the vehicle it wasn't designed for. If I lift a front wheel all the torque is going to the rear, so by doing it in 4x2 I just "forced" that scenario.

I also didn't use exesive force. Sure there was some wheelspin but I've seen vehicles going up there in 4x4 with much more wheelspin.

Edit: I hope this shows that Gert se Klip is not as bad as it looks. The first time i was there it looked very daunting. At first my dad didn't want me to try it in his Pajero...

Looks like 4x4 obstacles are like drugs.
Everyone starts out with gateway drugs (Kungwini practice course or de Wildt playpen) and say they are scared of the heavy stuff (Gert se klip/Mineshaft). Then they try the heavy stuff and get hooked. They want more and more of it. (Do it in reverse and 2wd wif no auto box or diff lock.)
The next step is to move on to even heavier stuff. (The crack cocaine of the 'terror trails!')
Or stay in the playpen, but with a Smart Car with smooth tyres.
