Hi guys, the Jeep I like has more issues. The sweat under the auto box looks bad and also looks like a leak between engine and gearbox. Rear bushes look worn ...

The tyres weren't 265 like he said but 245 instead but evidence of slight rubbing could be seen on inside of the wheel arch.

But biggest concern is the transmission and engine oil leaks which I'm told could result me doing a tranny overhaul :-(

Hmmm, yeah I dunno, getting a not so good vibe from this one.
I think bite the bullet and walk away till you fiend a nicer one. They are out there.

Remember your Jeep will find you.

Yeah seems like the best thing to do is walk away...I really though this was the one ...
The ride was perfect , the interior was very neat just the damn oil leaks.

I could have lived with a slight sweat but when the you see clear transmission oil on the gear selector you know it's more than just a sweat...

    Anyway the search continues ...

NOx - while on holiday in the Eastern Cape this December i noticed that EC by far have the most KJ`s i have ever seen, they were like Citi Golfs out there, none with forum stickers though, mind you, they all also seemed pretty standard.

Really shocked by how many there were.

    Hi Guys,

Thinking of expanding my search to include WJ , 4.7l V8 ... what you guys think ?
Is it less reliable than Cherokee having a more complex transfer case etc.... or the same ?

Any idea how much worse the fuel consumption is on a WJ , 4.7l ?

    Hi Guys,

    Need a bit more advice.

I having been also looking at Cherokee Sport edition which misses a few luxuries like leather electric seats, cruise control, colour bumpers and trip computer but most importantly it's transfer case only supports 4WD part time.

I can live without the luxuries but a bit concerned if I am loosing out without Full Time 4WD !

If I go out on trails is it important to have FT 4WD or is PT 4 WD sufficient ?

What happens if the trail ground is hardened due to dryness etc will it cause hopping in PT 4wd ?

Thanks, sorry if these questions are basic.

Are you talking KJ now again? or the boxy one? (xj)

My kj sport has full time 4wd, and it has a trip computer thingy....

what it doesn't have is the leather seats (roughly R7500 for custom ones) and the steering wheel controls and it only has air con not climate control.

I am still looking at KJ's , briefly looked at WJ's but thought the consumption would be too high for running around.

What year model is your Sport, I think the Selec-trac might have been optional with the Command-trac as the standard transfer case fitted.

But was just wondering if I would still be able to tackle trails with just PT 4wd and if I would need to constantly swap between 2wd and PT 4wd during trail.
i.e when the ground was hard would I need to switch to 2wd then back to PT 4wd when the trail had loose ground etc.
