    Default S A 's Fishing industry ???

How our friends can appoint Sekunjalo to police our fishing industry is a lot more serious than just a joke! Talk about the wolf guarding the henhouse.
We need a voice such as the anti fracking group to stop this nonsense before we have no fish left off our coast. Who can help?

I do know that the large SA companies that have the trawling fleets and factory ships are having a hard time of it getting their licences renewed due to BEE issues.

So, if they disappear I am sure the Chinese fleets will qualify

I know this subject deals with larger biomass spieces but It feels like their are no fish left already. Twenty plus launches and all I got is a sailfish and a 2kg dorado.
This problem starts from the top of north Africa downwards. We are not the only African country being shafted by the rest of the world and a few African ministers prepared to rape their whole country for self gain.

In wasn't aware we still had a seafood industry. 90% of what we get is imported.

The raping started many years ago...
In the 70's, off Cape Point and in the hours of darkness it was like the UN until sunrise

And that is what it looks like here at the Southern Tip.Friends that fish professionally often talk about the Chinese and others close inshore during the night. And when they trawl they trawl everything in the nets way.
Even down at Breede River mouth the foreign trawlers are within sight of land at night. They come in very close with all lights off.Its been going on for a long time.Even when I still had my boat we would be out at night fishing and see the foreigners trawling with lights off.

Sadly the 2 so called fishing protection vessels the Ellen Khuzwayo and the Sarah Baartman are never around. If they do come to our area they anchor up in the bay and spend a few days there. Then its up anchor and away they go.Im sure from their position they can even pick up the trawlers on radar. No action is ever taken.
If you go onto Shipfinder not one of these foreign vessels have their AIS switched on.
And yes it can be seen every year how the catches by line fishermen are getting less and less. This again leads to our fisherman catching undersized fish to make ends meet.
Im afraid in the next 10 years or so fish will be a luxury.Perlemoen will be gone.Crayfish will be very scarce.
    Sad.

I wonder how difficult it is to operate a sea farm? I love the idea but I suspect it isn't easy peasy.
