Get some diagnostics done to identify the issue.

Could be, air shock, compressor, valve block, sensor, etc. or any number of things.

    Re: Freelander 2 EGR

You can make the plate yourself, or do a remap which negates the need for a plate. Just need the template.

I have a plate, but it's in my car which is at ZF services which is in Durban. :p

    Will...

You seem to keep missing my point... it was tested in the Moab desert first. Now the track testing which i presume is for safety.

    Re: Is this it?

Yes, i'm not saying there isn't. But, many cars are tested on many circuits, tracks, etc. so why is this such an issue?

Or do you like the way a Defender feels at 120km/h going around a bend?

    Re: Is this it?

To be fair, they did that all in the beginning first at Moab, etc. and now they are doing the road testing. What's the big deal?

Have you heard of any replaced cranks going snap again or is the new sub assembly putting that issue to rest now?

Re: Landrover disco 3 crankshaft failure

I'm with Jelo here also. Don't rebuild. Get new sub assembly and move on. That's what should have happened in the first place.

Also, never heard of a LR indy of repute out that way.

    Re: roofrack consumption

I'm pretty sure it would be beneficial however when loaded it's understandable to have the drag, noise, etc.

It's when the rack is empty that it becomes essential to 'normal' day to day use.

    Re: roofrack consumption

The 'deflector' that came with the original roofrack is just about useless other than deflecting the drag and noise.

    This is the fairing:

  25. Discovery 4 Re: Considering a Land Rover Discovery 4 - What to look out for?

2005-2006 and early 2007 (it's a gamble) cranks were different to the changes when outsourced from 2007 onwards. From what I have read and there has not been a single 2005/6 model with a crank...

    Re: roofrack consumption

Rather just get the fairing... each time you place and remove, you are putting extra stress and wear on the mounting points.

The fairing is a game changer wrt these racks.
  27. Discovery 4 Re: Considering a Land Rover Discovery 4 - What to look out for?

As much as I love the D3 and D4, their downfall is the diesel crank issue. I would only buy a diesel Discovery if:

    a) It was a 2005-2006 Discovery 3
    b) 2007-20xx Discovery 3 or 4 if the crank has...
  28. Discovery 4 Re: Considering a Land Rover Discovery 4 - What to look out for?

I definitely agree with the above but ONLY if you can verify the service history of the vehicle. Otherwise, it's akin to russian roulette with possibly 2 extra rounds in the 6 round chamber.

    Discovery 3 Re: D3 V8 early model

Without knowing the history of the vehicle, it's impossible to know without doing an analysis with ZF whether the flush is good or not.
  30. Discovery 4 Re: Considering a Land Rover Discovery 4 - What to look out for?

No, the transmission oil change isn't mandatory. Rather get ZF to analyse and advise.
  31. Discovery 4 Re: Considering a Land Rover Discovery 4 - What to look out for?

    First hint, don't.

Second hint, research Discovery diesel crank failures on 2nd hand vehicles with unknown service history.

Third hint, read the sticky at the top of the Land Rover section

Precisely. All going on what previous owners have done and not knowing the full life history of the vehicle and the gearbox it's a game of roulette.

Interested to know if that snorkel has been connected under the hood as the V8 has 2 intakes on each side.

If anybody goes to view, please can we get a pic of under the hood.
