Ford & Mazda Re: Stock Essex V6 upgrade advice/guidance

If you want to keep the vehicle standard, that would be the only reason IMHO to keep that Ford V6.

Compared to today's engines, it is not a good engine at all.
Any modenn 2-2.5 TDi engine will...

Are the glow plugs working / getting 12V?

Test with a volt-meter over one (or more).

Re: PAJERO and PS ENGINE MODEL NUMBERS

Note that the original 4d56 was developed in ±1985, and many derivatives have seen the light.

The 4m41 was developed from the 4m40 and was also available in different forms, notably electronic...

  7. Re: Would you help someone in distress? My story….

I have thought of this many times.

Would it not be reasonable to ask the person (who is asking for help) for some sort of ID?

When you have it, you tell him what you are going to do:

    You...

    Re: Tar Removal Metallic paint

    Good advice.
Before using commercial products, check the MSDS for the product.
Many (if not most) of the commercial products mentioned here contain solvent products (which I would not use on my...

(I thought this up out of laziness when camping at Kleinemonde many moons ago)

  10. Re: Toyota Hilux 2,4 D S/Cab - Cleanup and Sorting

    Do it.
It's going to cost you, but then you have opportunity to tidy up all the wiring, pipes etc.

    Re: KB72 D-Teq 250 MOTOR (overhaul / replace)

    Somebody screwed up, big time!

Either the head or the block is warped - I cannot imagine a new gasket will leak on a newly machined sub.

    Great system IMO.
  13. Re: Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

    Exactly.
In the example on which the thread is based, the owner really thought her vehicle would be capable (to traverse the roads).
    It looks the part.

There was clearly no malice, negligence or...

    Re: Midas Full Synthetic Oil

    The 4m41 needs 15W40 oil.
For some engines, full synthetic is not necessarily better. (flame-proof suite is on!)

If you can get 15W40 in full synthetic, and it is at least API CF rated, I suppose...
  15. Re: Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

I doubt whether this is the norm.

    Re: Voetspore behaviour

    Voetspore?

We call them "Vreetspore" - a large portion of the footage is about them gorging themselves.
  20. Re: Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

Compared to eg a Terios or a Jimney, they are huge! ;D
  21. Re: Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

I intentionally did not mention the brand or model, because I don't think that it is important,
nor did I want this to become a brand-bashing thread.
  22. Re: Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

I always thought the Fortuner 4x2 was rear wheel drive.

    Wrong!
    Very wrong.
  24. Re: Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

    The video reinforces the OP.

The bakkie (Hilux / Amarok, does not matter), has all the visual credentials (mucho look, clearance, wheels), but not the required traction.

    I also think the Fiat...
  25. Re: Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

I agree, but staying on the line in this case would have been well-nigh impossible. You have to straddle a few dongas. In reverse you might just drive into a donga, and then you have even worse...
  26. Beware of 4x2s that pretend to be offroad capable.

I spent the weekend in the Transkei.
The road to the back packers was bad in some places, but nothing really serious.

We met a group of ladies at the back packers who were in a tiff.
    They tried...

    Re: Eish! The old Suuz

I used to have a Isuzu 280 DT - wonderful vehicle.
One of the failures was the multi-switch panel on the driver's door.

I replaced it with a black perspex panel...

Re: why do drum brakes still exist?

Maybe I'm wrong, but braking consists of transforming motional energy into (lots of)heat and (a bit of) noise.
