    Re: Drones for kids

I am a little confused here. Do you want a drone that can go fetch the kids from school every day?

    Re: Upgrade my car carrier

Problem is that there is literally no space behind the dizzy, to the firewall. The owner brought a very nice fancy dizzy, but it is about 6" in diameter. The stock one is about 4"

    But he wants to...

    Re: Upgrade my car carrier

The dizzy is sorted. The float on the shaft was 1,9mm. I have shimmed it with a copper washer and it is now about 0,1mm. So I am sure it is good. Just waiting for Cargo World in Springs to get back...

    Re: Upgrade my car carrier

Closest dizzy is 300km away and it was around lunch time, on Saturday.

Car is here with me now and I am having a battle finding spares. 305 Chevy. V8

    Re: Upgrade my car carrier

Did another recovery yesterday. The trailer brought the car home, but the zinger was to get the car off the mountain. Def not for the faint of heart.

The dizzy failed and broke the cap, twice.

    Re: Trailer Brake System

Actually starting to make sense now. I fitted my axles the wrong way round and had the same issues. Until I noticed that they were directional.

    Re: Trailer Brake System

The clock and anti clock sounds like they fitted the axle the wrong way around. Backwards, no breaks. So if the axle is the wrong way round, no breaks. Wonder which rocket scientist identified it.

Re: Vehicle with off road trailer recovery

Recovered a Ranger in Moz, over the dunes, on my trailer.

1 dune just didn't want to submit. So I ended up taking it as high as I could and dropping the trailer. Then go to the top and pull it...

    Re: Trailer Brake System

A trailer braking system can be a bastard.

    NOTHING must be OK.

Do it all by the book. And it starts with the slack on the shoes.
Then the freeplay on the cable.
    That hitch must engage at...

Re: Radiator motor on a switch ?

I haven't gone through the whole thread, but as far as I know those are variable speed fans.
Never the less. I have done a VW Golf lookalike system, more than I can count. Put a fan switch in you...

    Re: 2.4gd6 hilux manual problems

Laugh at me if you want to, but try 5% Uniglide FRC in that box. Plenty of evidence of how well it works.

Re: 200 VX Cruiser Power steering pump

First just add some Uniglide FRC. If that doesn't work, then work on replacing it.

It is something that has always fascinated me. Why does the steering hydraulics not have a filter?

    Re: Polyurethane bushes

I haven't got molds yet. But if I have the parts, I can just develop a mold from that.
  18. Re: Second Engine Replacement Required for Ford Ranger less than 3 years?

    I keep repeating myself.

The BS that the manufacturers need to hang on an engine is criminal.

Add proper filtration and no the manufacturer does not have your well being at heart. He does have...

Re: Looking for a bolt extractor

Don't go the "eeze out" route. Rather look at the Rigid tool. Much better concept.

You can also drill a hole and use a TORX tool.

  27. Re: Technical skill required to become an overlander?

This is regularly overlooked. The flatbed can very often not get to you. That is why I built my rig, the way I did. (This applies to plenty places in SADC. Roads are tracks and not roads. Moz, Bots,...
  28. Re: Technical skills required to become an overlander?

Get yourself a well stocked toolbox and keep it handy. Either for yourself, you ravel companions, or a knowledgeable guy that passes.
  29. Re: Technical skill required to become an overlander?

On any of these, start with good old common sense.

That same common sense should tell you that you need to speak to knowledgeable people, and that is where you started. Good on you.
