    Re: Kgalagadi

Lol indeed. Never drove the gravel road, it was tarred long before our first visit in 2010. But remnants of it can still be seen from the tar road. Looking at that, I can believe that it could be...

    Re: Kgalagadi

Ok, did not realize that it was discussed that far back.

I have no doubt that it is not feasible and it will never happen. So all the knee jerkers can chill8-);)

    As Stevan says though,...

    Re: Kgalagadi

Thank you, you keep proving my point why the current dune roads in the KTP will keep on being destroyed in their current form.

The solution is not to keep on grading them. It is the same...

Ah I see some knee jerk reactions as expected. ;D

Please, please tell me how tarring (or rehabilitating/rebuilding if those words will sit better with some) 2 roads will increase visitors...

Well those are the one's I referred to. In short forget about them. Leeuwdril is the only available trail to do.

I am not sure which other one's you refer to as free for all? The roads...

    Re: Kgalagadi in December

You are probably looking at the Nossob 4x4 trail and the Polentswa Wilderness trail. Yes they have to be booked, no towing is allowed, more than one vehicle, one ways and they are over multiple days...

    Re: Kgalagadi in December

For your requirement of electricity and swimming pool, you can choose any of the SA camps namely Twee Rivieren, Mata-Mata or Nossob. No trailer restrictions or one ways travelling between them.

    Re: Kgalagadi in December

Some people swear by the maxcon pegs but we use the largest storm pegs available. It is those with the 90 degree bend in.

Are you wanting to go this December? If so I am afraid you will not...

    No Kalahari thunderstorms.

Soil is generally soft and sandy, small pegs just pull out.

    Re: Kgalagadi in December

Done it twice. Once Rooiputs and once Mabua. Mabua was really tough, saw temps touching 50 with a hot wind and of course no swimming pool.

I would definitely do it again.

    As EHoffman...
  12. Re: First fridge/freezer - Help me make the right decision please

From experience I can tell you you don't want slighty off meat, especially chicken.

Yes they keep the chickens at 2 or 3 degrees in the shop, but it is constant. If you switch your fridge off...
  13. Re: First fridge/freezer - Help me make the right decision please

For those requirements, I will go dual compartment irrespective of brand.

I don't like the idea of switching off a fridge at night. Might not be so bad on winter nights, but in summer in the...

Re: Khubu island to Nxai pan

    Time of year?

I think that Gabs to Nxai pan will be a long day. The access track to Nxai is tough.

The Subaru miight struggle with ground clearance. The Discovery will sail through.

Yes, the U shaped part of the middle section is now a bit shallower with a very high density foam in that section so that it does not get damaged by the ridge over time. A softer high density is...

We tried about everything with that ridge. I ended up having the middle section remade with better quality high density foam in two different thicknesses. It helped about 95%.

The southern route is the more often used 2 way...

  32. Re: Please, help us to choose best itinerary for a Botswana tour of about 20 days.. =

    Welcome Massiliano!

If you include the CKGR, I would say that 20 days are a bit tight, but can be doable. You just might end up moving every day and will miss a lot of the 'spirit' of Botswana....
