    Re: Nissan Patrol info

Yes. What Jakes says here is very important.

The 4.5 is not a motor you want to turbo, or chip, or whatever.

    Re: Nissan Patrol info

    Value ? Anything between R80K and R120k, I guess.

Parts availability ? I have not had issues sourcing parts. Depends on who you know I guess. But if you get a Patrol, sign up with the Patrol forum...

Re: Managing 10+ routes in basecamp?

    Exactly what NJVermaak says.

Just to elaborate on the technical reason for this.

BaseCamp sees route and waypoint names as character strings and therefore sorts the names via character ordinal....

Re: The mystery of the Namib's fairy circles.

    Thanks for this Stan.

After recently seeing some of these near Sossusvlei, I was curious about them, but have just not had time to read up. This has jogged my memory. :)

    Re: Safe Fishing

Be careful of Rodekopjies these days. It's turned into a bit of a fight club and anglers (especially on the Eatern shore) are often targetted for robbery.

Emanzini is a fishing and camping spot on...

There are photos of my load bin somewhere on that thread too. Canopy involved was generic fibreglass one. Depends on lots of stuff.

Re: Pumping up those difficult to reach tyres

Probably any spares shop or 4x4 accessory shop.

Just checked 4x4 direct as well. I see they have a steel handled reamer for R60 (https://4x4direct.co.za/tyre-care/6902-tubeless-tyre-reamer.html)...

Re: Pumping up those difficult to reach tyres

Some tyre repair kits have plastic handles. You can think of what happens to the shaft of the tool if the handle breaks whilst you're applying a large amount of force. I prefer paying a little more...

Re: Pumping up those difficult to reach tyres

Off topic, but is that part of a tyre repair kit in your first photo ? Not to be pedantic, but if it's one of those with the plastic handles (it seems to be?), I'd suggest replacing it. They're your...

I am lucky. I've got an Auto 4.8 Patrol, and a manual 4.5 Patrol. The auto is fantastic, but I think it depends very much on the use case.

When touring, I prefer my manual - there is much less to...

Cannot comment on your original choice as I've not driven that stretch of road for years.

I would, however, recommend taking the N14. About 20km from Ventersdorp, you will go past Klerkskraal dam...
