Re: Has the Wrangler bubble burst?

    Overpriced!
Dealers very keenly set their new prices when it was like R20 to the Euro (I had to endure the lenghty justification) but you don't see them adjusting prices down when it's around...

Poll: Re: The Kgalagadi is overrated

I don't know what you "expect" to see going into any park, especially the Kalahari. I never prepare my expectation and feel blessed with any sightings. You go there to be in the Kalahari. If you want...
  4. Re: How much it costs to import a Tesla to South Africa

I think that comparing the costs now will not work. No matter what you drive, it is still exactly the same energy to propel say a 2t SUV over the hills. You can't change that, whether you derive your...
  5. Re: Are the LC 70 series V8's really THAT problematic in Africa?

If you are getting a Cruiser with 1HZ engine why would you worry about 100k mileage? Won't make a difference...;D

Re: Traveling the World: 37s and the rules

Legally, I think you need to comply with your country of registration rules. The other ones, like reflective triangles, tapes, load, towing etc. are additional regulations, which may be required on...

Re: Low Range - yes or no?

Well said, and these are just posts about descents. If you traverse a section with stones and boulders that are similar to or exceeding your ground clearance then having any 'momentum' is out of the...

    Re: Emergency jump starter

I think in reality you just need one moment of high peak current - that's how they achieve their performance and that's what a dead lead acid cannot do, even with some charge left. After the starter...

    Re: Tent Light

If you use LED strip lights and tie them to a small sealed lead-acid battery (like <7Ah, more 1-3, for lower weight) then you can have light for many days without recharging and it is not too heavy...

Re: Low Range - yes or no?

I used low range here and there in Baviaans for the comfort of creeping up and down slowly. In principle, that road is doable in 4x2, you need ground clearance more than 4WD.

I use 3x3 Lobatse Canvas with spring steel poles and also survived strong winds, mainly in Namibia (we once selected s really bad site at Spitzkoppe ;D but the view was stunning). The dome tent...

Re: Should I reconsider my loyalty to Cooper??

I was also happy with my Coopers but those price jumps put me off them completely. After all there are quite a few brands that will do the same job well. I don't like these kind of games. Once the...

    Re: Battery Very Hot

It is quite possible for a battery with dead cell to read decent voltage (like 13.05V here) with absolutely no load. But if the moment you load it - drops to 10.5 then it's definitely a dead cell....
