    Re: Geyserwize temperature reading error

All I can say is get a plumber that can do solar as geyser wise has become a standard item and they should be able to test the controller, probe etc.

    Re: Geyserwize temperature reading error

At less than R50 a piece one can just get another probe and then compare the resistance of the 2 if the current probe is defective. A test will quickly show if comparing it. It should have a close to...

Re: Solar System for Home ( yet another :)

As the MPPT is built in the grid tied inverter they normally have a high voltage level. Here one cannot select the voltage one would like to have. There is no difference between have to increase or...

    Re: Inverter s

Just some of my real measured figures. Apart from the 800W Victron pure sine inverter normally you need at least a 1000W inverter. Some inverters of 800W will start a house type fridge now and again...

    Re: Inverter advice

Well if it is for LS only then a UPS is sometimes a better option. Downside is that the grid is then used to keep the batteries full. But as you have big panels to keep the batteries charged during...

    Re: Pre-charge capacitors

Wel so met die tyd sal mens uitvind dis hoekom daar snap action switches en relays gebruik word om stroom te maak en te breek. Nie die fuses wat ons mense gebruik op solar stelsels.

    Re: Pre-charge capacitors

These are freely available and no need to fork out 10 times the price just because it is in a piece of aluminium. Inside heat shrink is fit for purpose.

    Re: Inverter advice

It would seem you want a always on system with battery back up. I would then rather go for a UPS type like the Axpert/Mecer or the Mecer 720W mentioned in another topic.

As you indicate a load of...

    Re: Mecer 720w inverter

It is a good plug and play option if one can bear with the noisy fan. High current charger to get bat charged again. It cannot start a house type fridge but the bigger 24V unit
    can run a fridge as...
  12. Re: Backup power for sleep apnea and oxygen xonverter

Based on the pictures the 1st unit shows 1.55A at 220V and in use could be lower. The 2nd unit that shows 110/220V and 2A I would guess it is 1A if run on 220V. Last unit I don't see the power used....

    Re: Camping Shower and Pump

  15. Re: Optimal solar panel for vehicle in long-term storage?

Yes I suggest you Google what the self discharge of about 280Ah lead acid will be. This is the 200Ah aux bat plus the car main battery. I just gave an estimated value.

Also bear in mind a 5W...

Re: 220V Compressor not working at home

I will not bother with a new cap. Take it back for a refund/replacement. Item not working as intended.
  18. Re: Optimal solar panel for vehicle in long-term storage?

Why I mentioned 30W as enough is you can get 24Wx4hrs=96Wh per day to go into your batteries. That will allow about 60Wh nett to go into the batteries after the max of 36Wh of self discharge per day....

Re: Coulomb meter or 2 x Ah meters

Although as stated it's easier to use the basic volts reading to give a SOC for lead acid one can still get an idea of the SOC of Lithium. I found with my small Lithuim set working on 12V one can use...

Re: DC Geyser element+ Hybrid inverter

Yes you can use the caps on the PTC element. In short the titanium cells used will just increase in ohm value when they reach a high temp to limit current and heat to prevent it from burning out like...
  25. Re: Optimal solar panel for vehicle in long-term storage?

I would use a 30W with a controller to ensure it does not overcharge.
The car and aux battery could self discharge about 2Ah per day. A 5W in sun might not even charge the loss of the 2 batteries...

Re: Coulomb meter or 2 x Ah meters

I would say 2 will work but you actually need only 1. Once the battery is fully charged you can discharge it with the power meter connected you can get the reading in Ah for a full discharge. Adjust...

Re: DC Geyser element+ Hybrid inverter

+1 Frivan for using a cap to reduce the current draw. I have not seen anyone using this most common way China gadgets add resistance in series with the 220V supply when running on AC.

Well the rules state that you have to prevent feeding back. As you have mentioned a number of times unless you go bi-directional metering which very few will do due to the daily feed in rate.

    Yes...
