Re: defender 300tdi flat spot or miss

Smoke screw and spring seat can be safely done without the gauge
    Agreed, for rotating the pin

Re: defender 300tdi flat spot or miss

It's not that important as long as you don't let the engine breathe it. I always leave the intercooler to intake hose off and start it and let the turbo blow dry it

Re: defender 300tdi flat spot or miss

Could be transition from off boost to on boost fueling is a bit slow.
Google 300TDi diesel pump tuning, and try lowering the spring seat a little.
If you're tempted to tune more, get an EGT gauge...

    I've just postponed a wedding

    Discovery 2: Re: Ultimate Disco2 Td5 Build

Transfer lever will just protrude a bit less but will work the same. Auto shifter doesn't change.
Can't remember what I did at the radiator. I never body lifted my TD5, only the V8. I'm pretty sure...

    Nylon is good.

Just confirm if the bumper is pre drilled and if so at what distance. It's a long time since I did mine so they may be doing things differently.
Old pic of mine attached. I know...

    Discovery 2: Re: Ultimate Disco2 Td5 Build

Burnco bumper is usually pre drilled for 40mm body lift.

I had the wheel snagging on the drivers side arch after the body lift and a little arch rolling. Those big tyres take up a lot of space...

    Discovery 2: Re: Ultimate Disco2 Td5 Build

By means of comparison, I'm running one of Biltong's test maps. Stock turbo and intercooler, no boost solenoid at present, adjusted wastegate.
100km/h is in the mid 400s
    120km/h around 500
    Flat...

    Discovery 2: Re: Ultimate Disco2 Td5 Build

Douglas, the body lift and bumpers are one item. Bumpers are bolted to the chassis so they will be left behind when the body goes up. Some suppliers will have drilled a second set of holes for this,...

    Discovery 1 Re: 2002 V8 on AutoTrader

If buying V8, there's no real reason to buy facelift. There were no upgrades done to the drivetrain to justify it, and you can easily change the lights if you like the look. V8 mileages are generally...

    Whatever, Mike.
I don't drive like that all the time but I have tested it.
And I have over 10 000 laps of various race tracks under my belt so I've probably picked up a little along the way.

    Nah
My 90 has a 2" lift in, but it actually sits higher because I've added quite a lot of lightness. Cast iron diesel replaced with alloy V8, SW converted to PU with all jump seats, carpets, etc...

    You definitely need cones.
My 90 has 2" longer coils and 2" longer shocks, so doesn't flex like yours will
The tops of my coils are permanently mis-seated slightly outward of the seats. They don't...

    Still chewing on that one.
I hate the floaty motorboat effect of the stock one, however I've fitted a quieter exhaust so now I can just avoid looking at the rev counter and pretend it isn't so.

Definitely going to reinstate it. I'm just testing methodically from where I started with one change at a time.

Big tyres add flywheel effect. More work to get them up to speed but then they're neutral or even helpful at maintaining speed.
Wider tyre on a lifted car gives more frontal area. Different bumpers...

    Discovery 2: Re: Ultimate Disco2 Td5 Build

Have a read of Biltong's TD5 mapping thread
Most tuners don't care about EGT so most aftermarket maps are very aggressive. He calculates AFR and therefore keeps EGT in check.

    My current D2 was...

Why not consider the Disco 2? Sure it's a downgrade in every way from the D3 but not by an enormous margin. The later TD5 engines are bulletproof and well understood. There are no fatal flaws (think...
