Re: Solar geyser backup element usage.

My take would be you need a specific amount of power to heat each liter by 1 degree in temp so it makes no difference if the element is off when cold water passes it or it has to heat the cold water...

Re: Fridge compressor on start up.

Good or bad during starting would perhaps depend on the fridge. Most fridges would cut out as the voltage during cranking should be below the level that the fridge switches off. My indication shows...

    Re: 500w inverter question

It should not draw any current when switched off as all the guys who bought the Changi will know. One should not have to add switches between bat and inverter if things work as they should.

    Re: 500w inverter question

For starting to compare the China Changi draws 10W when switched on and no load. With the weak Rand the 3000W peak is no longer cheap. The fan only comes on at over about 300W which is great.

    Re: 500w inverter question

All the inverters that have a green and red LED and power switch that I have seen only light up the green when the switch is on. The red is on when there is a fault. This convention does NOT draw any...

Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Nico the panel is made up of I think 3 sections. If a section is shaded then the voltage from the other panels will forward bais the diodes and they pass the current from the other panels.

    When...

Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Nico I can only talk of my very own recorded figures on my panels in series. The specs indicate a open circuit volts of 118V and in over a year my panels have never gone over 108V.

    Based on this I...

Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Current price is very high. I bought some in March at about R17.80/$ but one always pay more due to comms via PayPal.

Easier to compare the actual price.

    Re: Tesla 1million mile battery..

The example of 90% DOD I would read as 90% SOC as only 10% of capacity was used. If we look at cycle where one uses 10% of capacity=10% DOD you can get say 7 000 cycles. Thus the cycle is only the...

    Re: Tesla 1million mile battery..

1 000 000km seems a lot. If we take the 400km per charge of the standard battery it is only 2 500 cycles it is in line with the technology used for the lithium batteries.
  13. Re: Possible to charge main battery using solar and NL25 dc-dc?

Is the logic of the NL25DC-DC not in such a way that if you have solar it will not charge via the main battery.

If it is then one can charge the main battery via the NL25DC-DC (2nd bat not...

Was this not part of the recall affecting about 70% of cars made from 2002 to 2009 and even some 2014 to 2016 models. I got my Honda replaced about 2 years ago. At that time some manufacturers have...

Re: Mecer inverter and solar panels

OK. When connected to 220V the inverters will always charge the batteries that's why I indicated the panels will not have much time to actually charge batteries.

The way I see it the batteries are always charged by the Mecer trolleys. As you have 100Ah batteries they should last during a loadshed period. Panels are then only used during the load shed time...

    Re: Amperage for 4x 400W 12/14.4V system

Do I miss something in the calcs. 1600/14.4=111.11A

This is why 2 controllers of more than 50A each should be used. The 100V input would be fine as Prof indicated.

Back to the drawing board :)
  26. Re: Discovery3 twin battery installation - second battery fault
