Re: Bluff Tyres used an airgun on my nuts

    Indeed.

The clamping force that hold the wheel to the hub is provided by the studs.
When you tighten the nut, the stud stretches a little, tiny tiny amount, and it's now in its "elastic"...

I was hoping you'd add rubber, for safety you know >:D

Jokes aside, what's your take on airguns and lubing (trying not to say nuts)

Re: Bluff Tyres used an airgun on my nuts

Most likely all the studs are now stretched past the yield point and are a ticking time bomb.

The place should apologise, make amends and prevent the same from happening ever again.

    Here's a...

    Re: Doewors in PE?

Glad to hear Merino is still tops, I shall pay them a visit, it has been years.

Not to make you jealous, but Oom Eckhardt in Jansenville charged me R120/kg, but that was a year ago. I'll get an...
  6. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

The new Polo is brilliant. It actually makes the Golf a little pointless...

The worst I can say about it is, it’s as common as chips, (they do sell over 3000 of them a month) and there’s a...

Re: 4x4 what have you learned ?

    Haha my comment was TIC.

But jokes aside, generations of Karoo farmers off road every day without diff lock, 4x4 or an internet connection. We're born into it.

Re: 4x4 what have you learned ?

    Probably mentioned before:

As slow as possible, as fast as necessary.

But one I never knew is that you must have a 4x4 to go off road. We've been climbing mountains in 2WD bakkies for decades...

    Re: Doewors in PE?

    So how was the wors?

I'm heading that way soon, need to see a man about a dog, and getting wors is a good excuse.
  10. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

    It's called ambition ;D

The keen eyed might figure out from which model parts-bin-specialists VW sourced that instrument cluster from :)

Re: Any idea what these could be?

Just be sure to keep those caps on. It keeps dirt out the valves, and prevents someone from accidentally pushing the valve open. Aircon refrigerant is nasty stuff, you don’t want it on your skin.
  12. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

Very cool hey. For such a cheap car it’s very slick.

    Try these people:

They've done some fantastic work for me in the past, not the cheapest but flawless results every time.

    Re: 2018 D-Max

    Poor Isuzu

Brilliant bakkies, but the brand has always been the stepchild of some inept parent company. Delta had their moments, but under GM the Isuzu brand majorly fell out of favor with bakkie...

    That second picture...

I've heard of "everything and the kitchen sink", but that's everything and TWO kitchen sinks ;D
  19. Re: Why would anyone want to use a DC as a family vehicle?

People say a bakkie makes you look manly, let me tell* you, it takes real big cahoonas to show up at a Karoo family braai, in a Prius...

*just take my word, unlike some ministers, I don't make...
  20. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

Very valid question. Long distance travel is typically the nemesis of tiny city cars. Small engines, short wheelbases, light bodies and short gearing just does not add up to a relaxed long distance...
  21. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

Thanks Brian that is great feedback. I will admit, I was getting worried that I might suffer from confirmation bias because my praise for the up! has been pretty consistent for the past year....

Discovery 3 Re: Discovery 3 with Lexus V8

You need to go to Gumtree, sell the Dislex and buy a D3 V8.

    Not being nasty.
  23. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

I'm properly jealous over that sound system :-\

I had to pay R1000 extra to upgrade to a 6 speaker system from the standard 2 speakers and it's still only meh at best.

    Stupid VW that cannot...
  24. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

    Thanks.

No not at all. In fact I struggle to come up with anything new to say about the car, as a year into owning it I've pretty much covered all it's quirks and features.

    There's a 30 000km...

Re: Tips for 4X2 trip in Naminia

The funniest thing I ever saw in Nam was in 2011, a rental Hyundai Atos stuck in the sand at Sossusvlei. Driven by two very, erm, pleasant Dutch girls, it was amazing how far they managed to get ;D

    Re: Amarok hoofligte

Werk die Amarok se hoof ligte direk via die CANBUS of kom die krag van die battery af deur 'n relay? Ek neem aan opsie 2.

    Re: Fortuner service costs

    Thanks

It's probably safe to assume the 2.5 has the same service schedule, minus the 4x4 bits of course.

So far it's proving to be extremely reasonable to service at the dealer, so I'll...
