Re: Aftermarket shocks - Please suggest a brand

I have had standard shocks on my Colt, Camil, OME and Monroe. OME lasted very well and Camil was outright rubbish with a tiny shock inside a coil, leaking oil after just over 20k km. So at 140k km I...

Re: Lazy IHZ.......lazier than it should be

Stem, kyk ook na die bout onder die versneller pedaal. Stel hom dat die pomp vol oop is sonder om te veel stremming op die kabel te sit.

Re: Groenkloof Saterdag 25 Januarie 2020

Sal my broer se. Hy het 'n Jimney met snorkel, geligte suspensie en difflocks voor en agter en 'n klomp ander goed. Dink egter Groenkloof is te mak, selfs my Cruiser kan hom doen. Wat van God se Pad...

Re: Series 200 V8 stuck in 4X4 Lo

They really 'b'ucked up everything with the electronics. Never saw this issue with a short stick. My new Fortuner is also like this, luckily the old Colt and 79 Cruiser still has a reliable system.

Re: Your 4x4 being used what its MADE FOR.

Who are stupid enough to tackle that type of terrain in a 4x2 Hilux? The only type of Hilux that will need recovery. The crankshaft, sideshafts, still ok and enough oil in the sump after all that...

Re: List of Silent home Generators

Also got gatvol after the substation fire in Pretoria and with only 4 hours power out of 24. Fridges started to warm up so I got into the car yesterday and bought the first one I saw at Makro, a...

Re: Early Morning problem on Colt 2.8 TDI

Took it to Kokkie last Wednesday. Unfortunately this turned out to be an expensive exercise. They had to overhaul the diesel pump, replace a cracked manifold and fix an oil leak at just under R8k....

    Re: Land Cruisers too uneconomical?

In my eyes the 1Hz in 76/78/79 form is one of the cheapest cars to maintain besides the higher fuel consumption of 6-7 km/L.

The 10k replacing of bearings is not true, anyway not on my 79 1Hz...
  9. Re: Fastening clamshell rooftop tent to canopy

On mine we made a frame from aluminium to lift it a bit. Underneath we fitted a slider and modified the flysheet of the tent. See photos. Been working fine for 12 years now.

Re: Early Morning problem on Colt 2.8 TDI

Thanks Morne. Problem is that the vehicle will have to stay 2 or 3 days as the problem is only in the mornings and then Boksburg becomes a bit difficult to get to and back.

    Spoke to Kokkie, he...

Re: Early Morning problem on Colt 2.8 TDI

Hi Jelo, please give detail for A&F. After 3 years running with a booster pump I guess it is time to fix the seal in the diesel pump.

3 Years ago I got a reference for Kokkie, is he still around...
  12. Re: Is 500ppm diesel available anywhere in Pretoria anymore?

Re: Overlanding.. Do you really need a 4x4?

I went to the Serengeti in my Colt 4x4 but we took the lesser driven routes next to Lake Tanganjika to get there. Like Stan said, you can do a road trip to the Serengeti in a 4x2, anything with a bit...
  18. Re: What would the perfect rooftop tent look like?

A ground tent is good if you stay in the same place for a few days. If we go to Moz where we stay a week or longer in one place we use a 3x3 canvas dome tent. In a ground tent you can live, set up a...
  19. Re: 10 Reasons Why you should NOT build a Heavy 4WD Tourer

  20. Re: 10 Reasons Why you should NOT build a Heavy 4WD Tourer

  21. Re: 10 Reasons Why you should NOT build a Heavy 4WD Tourer

  22. Re: What would the perfect rooftop tent look like?

Re: Overlanding.. Do you really need a 4x4?

Re: Overlanding.. Do you really need a 4x4?

Took a couple to Nam in 2001 with a 4x2. That was the last time, just too many places you miss. In Moz you need 4x4 to get to many beaches/campsites. In Botswana to miss all the bush drives and stay...
  25. Re: Dual battery recommendations. What to get? High vs Deep

I know, even bought your first 2 books. Is the 3rd one available yet?

I use dual battery systems since 2001, first in my Colt and since 2007 in the Cruiser p/u.

In the Cruiser I have a Varta...
  26. Re: Dual battery recommendations. What to get? High vs Deep

App. 10 hours which simply means, never. That is why I say DC to DC is a waste of money. A simple Cole Hersee solenoid with fuses in the right places and at least 25 sq mm cable is the best. Rather...

I still use a gearlock in my Colt and a Gorilla steering lock in the 79 Cruiser. Will delay them a bit or convince them to move to the next car.
