Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

My battery box is done for now. I have managed to find the 2xUSB socket which was quite a battle. Just as I thought to blank the hole I found one. Inside I just need to fit extra fuses for each aux...

    Re: Camp shower

My idea would be to use the blue submercible pumps to feed a cold water line as to not reduce the flow through the gas geyser. You then have cold and hot water to a mixer and you can adjust the temp...

  4. Re: Where do I take an old dead battery for recycling

I can take it in and use it as a trade in when the next member buys a SMF100 from me without a scrap trade in.

    Re: Inverter price difference

I would put it down to volume and perhaps copies of other makes as well as different tech used and cheaper labor. Better rated components are more expensive.

My choice 8 China inverters than 1 gr8...

Are you using a mixer to add cold water to the hot water from the geyser?

    Re: Trailer Solar Options

25V safety margin from 50 to 75V for 2 panels seems very good with the controller mentioned.

Yes and then bought a SMF100 which gave me 5 times the capacity of the returned one. At the time we discussed the testing etc. It turned out the figures by the Victron Smart controller showing the...

Checks and balances by them with the pictures and returns is the method to know what action to take. A number of posts here have pointed to the risks when buying a battery.

    In this case the seller...

    Re: Deep Cycle Battery

When you get a battery with a shiney top full of scratch marks, less than half capacity and multiple spring washers on each pole in a new box then for sure it is not new.

Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

In a way if you run 500mm long leads of about 16sq mm the difference in volt drop for a 12 vs 24V to inverter can be discarded. Yes higher volts does look better when you do a calculation.

    2x12V...

Re: Taking our SOHO off grid

Don't have the specs for the Victron but the smaller Solis 4G's can kick in from about 60V which is 2 x 270W and higher panels.

I voltmeter permanently on at R50 that indicates the cranking volts IS a good tester. As long as the reading is above about 9.5V the battery is sound. Any deviation from the normal reading would tell...
  20. Re: Good quality portable 12v pure sine wave inverter

The China imported 1500/3000W now sells for about R1550 plus taxes. As you want to buy locally Electroman sells a China 2000/4000W unit in 24V using the very same components as the one a lot of us...

    Re: Panels, too many choices

2 to 3 of 80W with the 3rd one a portable panel. Canadian seems to be a good choice but a number of makes that are good. Just stay away from the real cheapies.

    Re: Panel Configuration

    @Mikeml
Good that we and Victron seem to be on the same page. :)

This is why I mentioned it in post #18. If a cheap controller ignited the smoke bomb it does not mean all MPPTs do it. Many...

    Re: Panel Configuration

I agree. It is amazing how many posts we see with respect to the max amps. This does not normally fry a controller as the voltage does if the max is exceeded. Also a number of inverters can accept...

    Re: Panel Configuration

6/4/4 and 5/5/4 a no go as the mppt will not be able to get the different amount of panels at their MPPT point. 4 times 4 and loose 1 or 6/2 and loose 2.

    Re: Panel Configuration

It seems like 4 in series and 4 parallel strings with 1 panel not used. This looks like around 35A which is far below the 70A of the controller.

    Re: Panel Configuration

Normally 36 cell 80W panels have a Voc at about 22 to 23V. Yes 7 will exceed the max on the controller.

Re: Can electric cars work in South Africa

    During a tow test with a 1600kg caravan a Tesla used 464W/km at 85km/h.

This can perhaps be as low as 290wh/km without towing. 1 x 330W panel providing say 5x330=1650Wh per day. Thus you can...

Re: Plug and play for router?

For sure the Huawei B315 and B618 will not work as they need more than 8V from the normal 12V.
