We had one when I was a kid back in school. It was a Kenwood. I would also like to get my hands on one again.

Re: Most fuel efficient 4x4 capable of dune trips

    Haven't read the entire thread...

What about an Amarok 2lt Bi TDI 4Motion?
The little extra you use in the dunes you will save on the road with town or long road driving.

Re: Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus

I had a set fitted when I bought my Amarok in 2018. I managed to get 70000km's from them and they were worn out. I did not do any rotation which might have helped. I was told they are very scarce at...
  6. Re: Public Awareness - Front Runner Kyalami Problems on the road

I don't think Frontrunner is still as South African as we think they are.
They recently sold to Dometic. I wonder if this has had anything to do with "cost cutting".
    It would seem the original...

I bought this one a few weeks ago at a Bootsale in Pretoria. Paid R180 for it including the cooker top.

Re: Double Cabs - How Capable is Capable??

I recently did the Ben10 Eco Challenge with Mountain Passes of South Africa in my Amarok. It went where all the others went without low range and with 19inch wheels. Used off-road mode up and down...

Considering the duration of your stay and the time of year (Smack bang in the middle of winter) I wouldn't take medication but precautions to prevent bites.

  12. Re: Dunlop Grandtrek AT3G or Pirelli Scorpion AT plus

Yup. I would use my old tyres on a long trip. In case there is a puncture or cut that can't be repaired it would not be a costly affair with new tyres. When you are safely back, then put on new ones.

Re: Best town in WC to invest

The returns on property aren't that great at the moment and unless you pay cash for property you will lose if you have to bond it.
Returns on property are around 2 to 3% currently.

    Isn't there...

Re: How practical is a Porta Potty?

I would rather walk to the ablutions than take a dump in a porta potty.
    Same with a number 1.

But I guess it is where you are camping that makes it a convenient option.
    But still...a no.2? ... I...
  17. Re: Sondela 4x4 obstacle course- Anyone done it?

Re: Deciding on what tyre to purchase

Nothing wrong with BFG's in the wet.
How many KM's will you be doing on the wet tar vs KM's on dry tar, gravel etc.

If performance in wet is a concern then you can always adapt your driving...

  24. Re: Camp meal menu for extended trips - how do you plan it?
