    Triton diff spares.

Terrible noise from the back turns out to be the diff. Stripped it, the gears appear good still. Main bearings seem to be the culprits. Does anybody know if these bearings, seal and collapsable...
  4. Re: The saga of the Triton rear axle bearings

The writing is as much fun as the work. Hoping someone can learn from it.
  5. Re: The saga of the Triton rear axle bearings

It went well. It was a breeze to strip it again on Saturday and reassemble.

Great care taken with the orientation of the backing plate.

I did the left axle housing oil seal last time round....
  6. Re: The saga of the Triton rear axle bearings

Up early on Monday to start the reassemble. Oupa is off to work, Matusi is helping me today.

First up the new outer bearing surface into the housing. Simple push on the 10t press using the old...
  7. Re: The saga of the Triton rear axle bearings

Next step, push the axle out. That is normally simple enough. Initial pushing on the 10t press gave no movement.

The manual shows that you should use special tool MB991552. A puller arrangement...

  9. Re: The saga of the Triton rear axle bearings

So Govenderís turned out to be as magical as Oupa remembered. With the parts in hand it was now fair game to start the dismantling.
Side thought: Until you have the parts in hand you always have...

  12. The saga of the Triton rear axle bearings

While on a weeks leave we took a trip from Oupa's farm near Umlaas road to Durban. The bakkie was not happy. Something was amis and I could swear she was growling at me.
    Back at Oupa's place the...

    Re: 3.2 Triton Steering Rack

Hi Kev, I got the seal kit replaced last year through the chaps in Pontoon road. Price was R1850 for the 6 hrs of labour. Plenty effort as the diff has to be shifted to get the rack out. Do yourself...
