  1. Re: Are the LC 70 series V8's really THAT problematic in Africa?

A single trip won't ruin a car and their vehicles are sponsored. Different thing if you pay for everything out of your pocket. Same with the Amarok's which was sponsored and where VW flew a ...

Re: Land Cruiser 78 4.2 diesel to be introduced!

The 4.2 S/C cost R657k and the 4.2 D/C R734. Troopy will be somewhere in between if this is true.
  3. Re: Another ASPW Perspective: Stop using diff locks

What about side slopes? Up and down going forward is fine and the more flex in most cases the softer the suspension. On a side slope with a lifted vehicle on a soft suspension and a RTT tent and...
  4. Re: Another ASPW Perspective: Stop using diff locks

If I need 4x4, I put it in 4x4, if I need low range, I put it in low range, if I need a diff lock I put the rear one one, if I need another, I put the front one one on, if all fail I use the winch....

If you miss Mafika Lisiu Pass, Katse and Mohale you make a big mistake. Also the Le Bihan/Maletsunyane falls at Semonkong.

    Fortuner Re: Fuel tank size.

I did not know that the range is not included in the reserve. Noted that mine also only have say 20km left and then take less than 70L. On my Cruiser p/u there is 2 90L tanks so I run one empty
    and...

Re: What would you choose as your overlander

The 4.2 is still available in single cab and double cab, https://www.toyota.co.za/ranges/land-cruiser-79. If you don't want it the V6 is a better option than the V8 for higher up in Africa.

Got my 2.4 Auto 4x4 new in Nov 2019 for R535k including a tow bar, window tinting/smash & grab, spare wheel lock and a few smaller extras. It does have a reverse camera and decent

  11. Re: Is a Nissan Patrol better than a Toyota Landcruiser?

The following very old and well discussed stupid trip shows a Cruiser is build strong. Guess a Patrol will do the same as well as a Gelandewagen and a Jeep Wrangler but not many others of

    Re: GD6 auto sport mode?

I am used to a 4.2 Diesel Cruiser and a 2.8 Colt Rodeo so the 2.4 Fortuner which basically is my wife's car is good enough. Would like the new 150kw 2.8 but the difference in price is just not ...

    Re: GD6 auto sport mode?

I like to use S4 in town and in very slow traffic even S3 or in the streets with all the speed bumps. When you put your foot down it reacts faster as it don't have to first shift back.

    Re: To Serengeti via Zambia

  15. Re: Comments on Bundutop rooftop tent on a 2003 Prado VX

  16. Re: Comments on Bundutop rooftop tent on a 2003 Prado VX

A 50mm mattress with 2 Tentco 5mm self inflating mattresses is the best we could get ours, very comfortable. If you use this setup in the place of the 100mm mattress in the Bundutop you

Re: Advise on a "lifer" overland vehicle

I agree that the V6 is much faster than a 1Hz though the low down torque on the 1 Hz is amazing. Fuel consumption don't differ that much. As an overland vehicle you have the problem
    that the V6 and...

Re: Advise on a "lifer" overland vehicle

Re: New Guy - 76 SW

You won't break the H151/2F gearbox. The R151F gearbox in the 4.2 is not so strong and some 5th. gear failures in a certain VIN # range appeared.

Re: Low Range - yes or no?

In difficult slow terrain I always use low range. I prefer to drive in 4th gear low range to second gear high range. Your options is more and the in between 3rd gear may be just what you need.
