Re: Planning to go off grid on electricity

My house consumes 30kWh per day often. Run a pool pump, borehole, fridges, oven, iron, dishwasher and geyser all at some time during the day and it all adds up quickly.

I have made peace with the...

Re: Trip to tanzania incl western side

We did this in 2005, many things could have changed by now ito Road conditions etc.

At the time there were hardly any camp sites along the western side and we just bush camped.

    Roads were not...

If you stop reading posts from non D4 owners here you will find it becomes a lot more reliable :-)

Having owned both D3 and D4, the latter is way mors reliable. Mine has been to Chobe, Zim, and...

Re: Discovery 4 12v Anderson Socket Rear

I did it on my D3, and in hindsight if I had to do it for a day job it would not be cheaper. DIY is always the lowest cost option.

Re: Discovery 4 12v Anderson Socket Rear

The OEM wire is rated for 30A, and works well with my HCDP DC DC unit.

There is two wires, one is permanently wired (30A) and a switched one.

Re: Lower control arms - D4

Stay away from poly bushes on the D4 lower control arms, rather go the RRS bushes.

My D3 had the RRS bushes done, no perceived difference in ride quality, on my D4 the poly bushes made a...

    Re: Fronius Inverters

If the aim is only to reduce utility bills, you first need to calculate if the panels you have will ever pay of the new inverter, and how much will you save with panels not positioned in an ideal way.

Got my best efficiency for this year today, 6.32kW/kW installed, with a thin coat of dust and some Hadida poop on one panel.
  12. Re: Used Land Rovers are half the top ten slowest sellers in USA

If you go drive a Kia Sportage or a Mazda CX5 back to back with the XTrial you will know why. The quality of the trim, the interior styling and the drive train is past its sell by date. And then you...

Re: Solar System for Home ( yet another :)

The arrestor is like a switch, it will see the DC voltage on your PV lines, and when it exceeds the design voltage it will short it down to earth, preventing the spike to travel into your MPPT.

  17. Re: Finally a permanent Fix for one of the TDV6 Achilles heels

Maybe its just easier and cheaper to replace the plastic housing every 80 to 100k km's during a service. I have replaced mine twice now, handle it as a service item. Most knowledgeable Indies do that...

  22. Re: Kool Energy 1kW - 100Ah 12V AGM Battery - Mobile Load Shedding Kit Unit

I would say it's safe to add another 120W panel, but not two.

It will give a bit more range, but only during sunshine hours. I would rather add another battery in parallel.

It's useful when your subjects move around, like kids at a birthday party, birds in flight etc.

    For landscapes not neccesary.
