    If you are visiting Kgalagadi one agrees to abide by the Park regulations and wilderness camps are only for the use of those who have reservations.

    Lots of dead tortoises in Kgalagadi at the moment.

    Theory is that with the food shortage in the drought the honey badgers/martial eagles/crows are killing them.

    Rangers told me they had a rain storm at Nossob over the Easter weekend which had made a big difference. Mata had very little. Mata rain reports if I recall were 0.8mm...

    Fibre is currently being installed in Hermanus.

    Just back after two weeks in Kgalagadi.

    If you take the dune road from Urie to Nossob be aware that the top of the road on the dunes can have deep potholes.

    Sam -Overall and this varies tremendously from area to area I think flowers in N Cape are less than last year. Some are late such as Nieuwoudtville bulbs. Rain would of course improve conditions....

    Springbok area seems to have been badly hit by the drought according to tourists I spoke to but Skilpad Namaqua was good.

    Very cool weather.
    Excellent hospitality from locals and Hantam lamb up to standard!

    60C seems to be a magic number - good for many cuts of meat. I think I prefer finishing on the braai to a torch... Looks sensational!

    SANParks will be allowing free entry into Kgalagadi from Sept 8 - 15 as part of their National Parks week. No quotas will be applied.

    For those who have already booked there could be a fair influx...
