    Re: Home distilled

So your OG was probably around 12% based on those numbers, so you have certainly had some conversion.
What sort of area are you leaving your fermentation vessel in and what temperature is the wash?...

The one with the copper coil in it is the worm condenser.

Not necessarily useless, I mean it might be off, but you can always accommodate for that.
Put the hydrometer in water and see where the "new" 1.00 mark is and then add (or subtract) that amount when...

    Re: Hydrometer reading?

So in the case of your hydrometer, even though the numbers in the blue area for sg say 70,80,90, they are actually 1.070 , 1.080, 1.090
So when you making a wash you want to end up as close to the...

The benefits of buying off takealot or bidorbuy is that they usually do protect the buyer so if you get it and its not 100% there is usually a remedy.

    Re: Home distilled

    I would recommend yeahbrew.
It certainly is useful to use a hydrometer, as it gives you an indication of how much sugar you are starting with (potential abv).
You want to aim at 1.090 or...

    Re: Home distilled

Further to Jelo, you use a (brewers) hydrometer to measure the sugar "potential" in the wash you make, taking a before reading and an after reading will
help you calculate how much sugar has been...

    Re: Home distilled

Thanks, this time round I am trying the voermol product, had lowered OG to around 12% to start with, was super busy for about 30 hours but has stopped at around 1.030 so sounds like its done.

    Re: Home distilled

A question to those of you that do 100% molasses washes, what sort of SG do you find your conversion is stopping at?
Obviously a pure sugar wash can get down to 0 but with the unconvertable sugars...
