Re: Cape Town vehicle licence renewals

Online renewals, have been doing this for years but what they seem to be doing lately is you have to pay on the same day they send the email. So you have to watch your email like a hawk. Also if you...
  2. Re: 98 D1 V8i Auto engine rebuild needed - who to do in WP/CT?

I had mine rebuilt by Basticks engine rebuilders in Salt River. Cost me about R8K but I did all the non-machineshop work myself.
If you re-sleeve go for the Isuzu collared sleeves.
  3. Sticky: Re: Suzuki New Grand Vitara 2008+ Repairs & Modifications

Correct. CRC easing oil to be precise.
  4. Sticky: Re: Suzuki New Grand Vitara 2008+ Repairs & Modifications

After 4 months I finally got the front shock bearings from Suzuki and could proceed with changing the shocks and installing the Stofpad lift kit.
The old shocks seemed fine, no leaks. The old...

    Discovery 1 Re: D1 siren

Success! I measured the pins with ignition off, one is ground, one is 11.5 volts (i suspect this is floating), one is battery voltage, and the last had about 15 Ohms to ground. Turning ignition on...

Thanks guys, so far no luck with your and Mr Google's suggestions. I will break out the multimeter and see if I can spot anything. Not a crisis as everything else seems to work

    Discovery 1 D1 siren

After having my D1 V8 battery disconnected for a long time (loooong story) everything starts and it runs great... except the &%$# siren.

Central locking works fine but nothing will shut the...

Re: Social Isolation - time to fix!

Yes the original re-sleeve was done only because of wear and the crack happened 2500km later so the engine had to be stripped again. Obviously there was a latent crack which the re-sleeving process...

    Close enough.
Crack in the block 2500km after re-sleeving.

No you were right, but there is a reason that sleeve looks different

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem

I really am copying you, I also got from Tonnesens. R539 ea for the rears and 1173 for the front ea ex vat. Collected them today. The idea is to fit them when I do the lift kit which is a bit...

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem

I'm finally finished. Took much longer than Davey but I was working by myself. Torquing the shaft bolts was bit of a pain because i was working inches from my nose. But my main enemy was the hot...

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem

Recent hot weather inspired me to make a start on this although said hot weather made progress difficult.

I jerry-rigged the fuel relay socket to empty the tank and it seemed to work well but...

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem

    (old fart moan)

Just when you start to understand the tech they change it.

In the old carbie low pressure systems the filter was downstream of the fuel pump

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem

Had a chance to discuss this with someone knowledgeable and he he said it must be fuel pump cavitation.

If there is too much resistance on the inlet side the pressure in the pump inlet drops very...

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem

That was my original plan, however...

    a) it is cheap enough
    b) We don't really understand the problem so just replacing the pump alone might not fix it
    c) Its a lot of work and I don't want to...

Thanks. Did you get it from Suzuki? What was the approx cost? With the effort involved its probably not worth trying to save a buck on the parts.

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem

I suppose it could explained by low fuel pressure. I notice the "instant fuel consumption" more than doubles when this happens. Could be the ecu is trying to compensate for lean burn by opening the...

    Re: GV 3.2 Surging problem
