Re: Journey up the West Coast with an XTrail

I'll add my vote to it's totally possible with the 4x4 version. 12km North of Groenrivier is some sandy sections, but nothing too serious and more a matter of keeping momentum and deflating tires.

Re: Storage for BushLapa Bushwing panels

Also a good plan. We mostly use one of 2 walls (at fridge or next to back door) so that bag might work perfectly.

Re: Storage for BushLapa Bushwing panels

That seems a good plan! Pack them separately and only take along what you'll need. I mostly use only one side for the wind. Where my pvc bag is now (right front behind fridge) can take 2 hi lid...

Re: Bush Lapa folding solar panel

If both went through the inside controller then good, but I'm cautious of two solutions going separately to the batteries. Either way haven't really needed the extra solar as my 140w with Victron...

Re: Bush Lapa folding solar panel

I was also thinking of plugging in a standalone one at times, but what would the effect be on the battery if it now get's a charge from 2 sources? Would the batteries just absorb whatever it can...

Re: Storage for BushLapa Bushwing panels

The standard pvc(?) bag is quite large, but fits perfectly in the right front behind the fridge. Haven't got much use for that space either way and pretty much never open it.

Het nou gebel, maar nr5 is reeds bespreek. Net 4 is oop maar die girl se 1 is ook redelik privaat, want hy gaan half in die rotse in. Ek was seker so 7 jaar laas daar maar onthou dit is 'n baie...

Yay, breaking the severe camping drought of almost 2 months and heading off to Kagga Kamma this weekend ;D Just couldn't stand the camp deprivation symptoms anymore.

    2008 Defender 90 anyone?

Anyone know of someone looking for a 2008 Puma 90 at probably a very good price? (Probably +-240k) Gray, just like mine was, 175k, FSH with Terrafirma suspension, 265 Maxxis MTs tires, bullbar,...

Re: Buying advice Defender 110 300tdi

I agree that price is a bit insane. Looks nice, but nice also begs the question why was it resprayed and the engine plated with gold (at R104k). The rest of the body parts still have 280k of wear...

    Re: Is this it?

Literally the only Defenders owners that could be worried is the farmers using a pickup as workhorse. Only they "might" have run out of a LR option. For the rest its purely for nostalgic reasons or...

I've also recently driven a Hilux and a Ranger. On tar. It felt like a bad gravel road jumping over every little ditch in the road. No way I'll exchange my automated lazyboy for that. The D4...

For all I care, they can make the luxury version R3m. I'll take the most basic cosmetic spec that has the top technical specs.

    Re: Is this it?

My guestimate is a price bracket of R850k - R1m depending on model. There absolutely has to be a base model relatively matching the Everest and Fortuner bracket.

    Re: Is this it?

Ja, the Td5 certainly has be best sound. I'd agree a well maintained Td5 is currently on top of the Defender list. Wouldn't mind a 2006-ish model parked next to the house. Hmm... perhaps.

    Re: Is this it?

Embrace change, embrace the new South Africa. Buy a Defender. ;D

Defender model n-1 has always been the best. When the 300Tdi came out it was crap - get a 200Tdi. Then the Td5 - Tdi was tops. ...

That sadly is true and it will take time for people to embrace change. Very comparable to people still living in the old SA 25 years on.

    Re: Cutlery bags ideas

Not what you want to hear, but I'd rather put cutlery in a container or tray inside the trailer. I found that these cutlery holders take up a lot of space and gets quite dusty etc in the open.

Your best route would be via Sendelings directly to DH. The last section to DH might be tight with the Xplorer (because of its length), but possible. I'd however just stay on the northern section...
