    Re: National Parks Opens

Botswana's state of emergency might end in October, but that does not by default mean that SA will open it's borders then.

Personally, I will not be inclined to make any bookings in a...

    Re: Corona Virus is over

    O nice.

    1. The way I feel today, I can spend all the available time at Polentswa no 2 or Khiding. Just park off there, gaze over the pan, enjoy the sunsets and hope to hear a lion roar.

Re: Savuti to Kasane. Best easiest road

You are confusing yourself. OP said South Gate. It is and have always been in Moremi.

    South Camp is in Nxai.

Re: Savuti to Kasane. Best easiest road

    Welcome.

First: for when/what time of year is this trip planned? You are aware that borders will probably not open this year? Also you are looking at prime spots and you will need to book...
  5. Re: Mabua (Mpaya campsites) - Number of vehicles

Exactly, if someone will just bother to enforce the limits.

As Stan says: 3 vehicles/ 8 people per campsite are more than generous.

    Re: Overland December2020-January 2021

    This ^^^

Hectic trip in possible wet conditions.

Plus, I would not be planning (and paying for) any cross-border trip until it is clear when borders will open permanently.

Re: Camping prices in Botswana is ridiculous

The whole private operator thing started due to DWNP being incapable to properly manage their campsites. Think of Xakanaka, Savuti, the old Serondela, South Gate, 3rd Bridge, Nxai pan some 20 or 25...

Sticky: Re: I need something you might throw away!

Does anyone in the greater Pta-East have weights lying around? Discs or decent size dumbbells, anything really.

Even if we can just borrow it for a while. :)

Re: Camping prices in Botswana is ridiculous

    Exactly Pat!

That clearing in the bush, the solitude, no other person for 20 or 50 km, seeing no other vehicle for days on end is absolutely priceless to me. I cannot afford it multiple times a...

Re: Pilot dies, passenger lands King Air

Agreed, he did very well. Even 80 hours in a simple 172 cockpit cannot prepare a person for that King Air cockpit. Not to mention the difference in speed and power between the 2 planes. But he got...

Re: Camping prices in Botswana is ridiculous

Camping prices in Botswana will not change as it is linked to their low volume, high price model. And they will not change the model. In my opinion rightly so.

Re: Camping prices in Botswana is ridiculous

The OP is referring to Moremi and Chobe. The DWPN run campsites in Moremi and Chobe are:

    1. ?
    2. ?
    3. ?

Boat cruises in Moremi, which he is also referring to, is pretty much standard...

Re: Photo trip report, Namibia south and west

We did a quick look see at the Canyon the next day, but my photos was a bit disappointing. I suspect we were a bit late and the light was too harsh by then.

But just to show we were there. 8-)

Canyon Roadhouse is very funky with all the old cars. Interesting, but fairly clean ablutions. And a blooming cold pool for such a hot place.

To the left of the middle lion, there is a small tuft of an ear peeking out behind the rock.

Is that tree in the middle of the road not close to Kachikau?

Yes, absolutely. I use pre-mix spices, it is what it is. Sprinkle meat liberally and rub. Then sprinkle with brown grape vinegar and rub some more. I leave mine for 2 full days to soak.

  27. Re: Adjustable air helper kits / Air springs advice please.

Yes, we inflate when towing. With no load I try to keep them at 0.6 - 0.8 but usually forget to check. They are not supposed to loose air though and mine does not so I have never found them...
  28. Re: Adjustable air helper kits / Air springs advice please.

Personally, I am wary of the air helpers outside the coils. I have the one's inside the coils in my Fortuner and so far so good. It has been installed 2 years ago and works well for when we tow.
  29. Re: Namibia border closed for leasure travel ??? Help needed

  33. Re: first confirmed corona cases, travel ban in effect.

Correct. As long as you don't exit into Botswana from Mabua, but go back to TR, you don't need to do border formalities. You can enter at TR, camp all over, including Mabua, and exit at TR without...
