Re: What to upgrade to, eventually.

If you shop right and do your homework and background checks, you can have a feast on a Vaaljapie budget. In this case the OP knows what he wants, I'm sure he'll find a sweet deal eventually.

And the FJ! But that would be outside the OP's budget.

    Re: I see Raptors EVERYWHERE

With a Raptor you'll FIND a use for it, even if it means wheeling to the top of a mountain in record time to save a poor chameleon from a hungry hawk!

Re: What to upgrade to, eventually.

Yup, you opened a can of worms! Even the Grand Cherokee 3.6 Pentastar petrol is very nice and not too thirsty. A V6/V8/V10 Touareg, petrol or diesel, would be awesome but if something breaks;...

Even Groenkloof is good; many shots can look like the wilderness out there.

    Re: What would you do?

As a daily driver that 4.2 will frustrate the heck out of you, unless you drive like a granny. Overtaking with it is a real pain. If I was in your shoes I'd definitely get the V8 or the V6 (I know...

    Re: Kosi bay

You won't be able to get anywhere near the sea at Kosi Bay without a 4x4. It also eliminates the option of day trips to Tembe, Ponta du Ouro, etc. IMO, do it in a proper 4x4 or visit elsewhere.

O's is very nice and on the river. Mirabel Guesthouse has THE best breakfast, but I'm not sure if they cater for non-residents.

  12. Stopover close to N1: Cloudforest Chapel and Camping, Louis Trichardt

Situated on top of the Soutpansberg in cool indigenous forest. Only about 2 km from the N1, yet wonderfully quiet. Two fully equipped, comfortable chalets also available. We stayed there in September...

Re: Cape Town to Northern KNP

It's an easy 8-hour drive, (shortish) stops included. Just leave at 06:00 or soon after.

Badplaas is good. Alternatively, drive the whole day from Tzendze to Malelane Gate and camp at the Malelane Golf Club and Caravan Park (what I would do).

Re: Cape Town to Northern KNP

That would eliminate Zvakanaka as you leave the N1 at Polokwane. Between the R524 and R525 I would definitely choose the R525 to Pafuri Gate.

Re: Cape Town to Northern KNP

+1 for Sondela; really right next to N1 and lovely animals all around (kudu, impala, etc). Remember that the R524 between Thohoyandou and Punda Gate is no pleasure to drive; people and livestock...

Re: 2001 Pajero 3.2 yes or no?

Yup, looking at the driver's seat and rear bench, this Pajero did NOT do only 142k km's! Perhaps it belonged to a formulite some time ago, but right now it's a typical 'spoeg & plak' dealer 'special'...

In stock form, the Pajero will lose more tupperware in extreme off-road conditions. But the Pajero has a tougher, more durable diesel engine than the Prado's 3-litre. The petrols are pretty evenly...
