    Re: Snorkel or not?

The 70s LC and the LC 200 that Toyota sell here can come in an 'NGO spec' that has a factory Toyota snorkel.

    Re: Snorkel or not?

Correct. As the snorkel head overlaps the pipe, it forms a sort of circular guttering on the inside and the water then exits through the slits.

My snorkel head is always facing forward and even...

    Thank you for posting.

I have direct experience of what they are doing here in Malawi, they are turning things around at incredible pace.

  6. Re: Preparing my Hardbody 2.4i for a bit of dune driving.

I really like those 2.4 Hardbodies, they are meant for Africa. Give me one of those anytime for happy motoring.

The 'wide Vs thin tyres in sand' argument is a very, very deep rabbit hole!! ;)

Re: Does a Kuga count as a 4x4??

She is right when she says that those soft-roaders are basically all the same vehicle, and that if the brand badge wasn't there you would't be able to tell them apart. ;D

Re: Feb/ March Southern Africa Trip

The best way is via Mulanje border, then Mocuba, Nampula, Nacala (You get to the MOz island turnoff before Nacala).

This road has just recently been finished and it's all tar.

    If you get to the...

This is very true ,it happens all over Southern Africa to a certain degree, especially in the European holiday seasons ( July and August, also the Christmas holidays ).

Freelander II Re: Petrol into a Diesel Freelander II

Re: Feb/ March Southern Africa Trip

It should be an interesting trip!

    Malawi wise:

The M5 like all other roads at that time of the year will be riddled with potholes and the sides will be crumbling so just drive slowly.
    It's...

Re: Disco on last legs, where to now?

1)Yes that would be a silly questions.

Only it wasn't my question. I asked 'why should pipes pesish after 10 years', when many people (like me) drive 20 yrs old, high mileage Jap crap and never...

Re: Disco on last legs, where to now?

I knew a lady in her mid 90s: she was a heavy smoker, and had been all her life. She was in rude health.

Still I believe smoking is bad for you.

As a kid we had a cat who loved greens such as...

Re: Disco on last legs, where to now?

This is Africa, you need to get there and get your folks there without any hassles.

Why should pipes perish after 10 years?

Why should auto boxes give up the ghost?

    Don't settle for that....

Re: Disco on last legs, where to now?

That's the best advice you have had!

For some peace of mind switch to a Jap SUV that is well maintained and fits your budget.

For me it's worth giving up the comfy seats for the peace of mind....

    Re: Snorkel or not?

Is your cruiser petrol or diesel?

I think that with older turbo diesels there might be a bit of an increase in power, anecdotally. Or is it all in the head/mind?

    That's great news.

Henris, is the 1KD head a straight fit?

What do you need to modify, if anything ?

What vehicle is it being done to? Hilux ? Prado?

Fortuner Re: No power on Diff lock plug

    Hope you get it sorted.

Once it's fixed, use it once a week, just engage and disengage in your drive.

With those things is 'use it or lose it'.
  29. Re: Looking to buy a 2000 Raider 3000TD DC - Not sure what to offer or if it's worth

Oh I see, interesting, it never reached our shores.

  32. Re: Looking to buy a 2000 Raider 3000TD DC - Not sure what to offer or if it's worth

The 5L is great and believe it or not some of the new Prados and fortuners made for the UN still come with the 5L.

  35. Re: Bad Shot - The now legal Elephant hunt in Botswana
