  1. Re: How are all you Vaalies who are off grid doing?

Hi Shane, you mentioned a while back you have: I have 3.6kw East Facing.
I have 6.2kw North West facing.

Your curve looks so similar to mine its scary, except i peak at just over 3.1kw. I have:...

Re: New building - what geyser options

In our previous house, spec house built new, we has gas geyser. I probably saved 1k per month on electricity bill. Did not like running out of gas at the most unforeseen time.

    In our current...
  3. Re: I bit the bullet, panels etc to be delivered on Monday

Ekkekan, looking at Stephens extra panels, or current set up, how do you work out your roi ? Is it the amount of panels, monthly kilowatt, divide amount of panels / panel wts, initial cost. I am...

    Re: Home solar setup advise

Prof, i think so as well, especially the Western Cape. In a way, i am glad i had no choice but to get a proper 4 way smart meter. I am currently feeding back to George Muni as from 7am some days, i...
  6. Re: Legal or experienential advice needed for a new house build.

  7. Re: How are all you Vaalies who are off grid doing?

    Good day yesterday, 19.3kw daily yield out of 9 x 420w panels [4 x east, 5 x north facing]

    Re: Home solar setup advise

    Please explain this?

Also, the grid electricity gets converted twice so for every six units you use one is lost to the system.
  11. Re: How are all you Vaalies who are off grid doing?

Think those massive peaks are solar, not draw, intermittent clouds, massive spolar spikes.
I had the same, massive spikes where your panels actually produce more than they specced, but
    just for...

Re: Heat pump and off grid solar

Wetkit, this is interesting....So how many geysers do you have, i take it 2 x 200L. How do you heat them up, with a heat pump?
How much water do you use, i recon 400L of hot water can last you days...

Re: Heat pump and off grid solar

I heat up 300L of water [2 x 150l geysers] by solar. My graph shows the heat pump chows 1.7kw for 3 x hours. If you have very good insulated geysers the water at 55 degrees will not drop much at all...

Re: Not grid tied, solar when the sun shines

If i may. Perhaps invest in a heat pump like i did years back to replace normal geysers. Mine heats up 2 x 150L gesyers from 35 to 55 degrees in 3 hours and it stays that temp for many many hours. It...

Re: Not grid tied, solar when the sun shines
