    Re: Angola 19/7 tot 5/8/2019

    Hi Martin,

    Did you get my email?

    Thanks
  2. Re: Do you have the right? A rant about spineless individuals spreading rumors.

I agree Henkus and now and then I get out the blocks a bit quickly without some contemplative thought.

One point is that most of these indies have hundreds of satisfied customers but there is...

    Re: Lowering EGT’s

Given only those two options I would go for the intercooler. I have seen positive (lower) results from gas engines where each cylinder has an EGT probe when intake air was cooler and gas was chilled....

Discovery 1 Re: Camel Trophy Tribute D1 300tdi

Lekker truck Jurgen; very nice work. I am surprised at the overheating as mine never ever came close and I worked it quite hard in sand etc, although according to the LBB and LR OEM optimistic...
  5. Re: Anyone been stopped at a speed trap near Gobabis?

Good lessons in being very careful in and out of SA; more so outside I suppose. I have been stopped a few times and being apologetic and very polite has seen me let off without being fined; so far....

Why did you find Mabua disappointing? I have a trip there in mind.

    Re: Mananga 4 x 4 Trail - Satara Kruger

I think you are right. I enquired about the Madlabantu trail near Pretoriuskop last week and they (Pkop reception) said it had been closed for 3 years.

Re: My LC 79 v8 Journey

Very impressive truck Roughneck and I reckon there is no beating a well kitted LC for overland travel. I always envy them.

But just a word about your Namib trip. Weight is the enemy, even of a V8...
  10. Re: Prado towing Echo Namib advice for sand driving

    Disable traction control.
  11. Re: Toyota Prado 150 + Wild Earth RTT - Carrying 4 Jerry Cans?

I did the Luderitz to Walvis trip without a roofrack but only two people in the car. I put two jerry cans of diesel in the vehicle (Fortuner) on a plastic box base that provided a bit of a "bund"...

    Re: Angola 19/7 tot 5/8/2019

Looks great Martin. What toer was it by the way?

I am keen to go mid 2020.
  13. Re: The Namib 100 - Hiking into the Forbidden Land

Great trip and amazing on foot (even with backup). I felt a twinge along the Langwand; not time to have a breakdown.

If I have one minor criticism of Live the Journey (4x4 trip in 2017), I would...

Re: Just don't get some people...

I suppose there is some inevitability that "pristine" areas will be spoiled as those who manage them and those who visit them have no real knowledge, care or feeling for them. This includes locals...

    Re: My Fortuner Journey

Nice looking vehicle - can I ask; what nudge bar is that? The "wings" add a little bit of protection without too much weight.

Re: Just don't get some people...

I agree but flip it is depressing. Similar with fishing along the East coast.
  17. Re: Advice on how to proceed with Indie workshop

Maybe cover yourself by emailing your complaint and request and what you want from him. Set a time for a response.

Re: Help please, stranded Hilux (2018 GD6 2.4)

I have had this happen three or four times on my old Disco 300Tdi, sometimes with the rubber hose tearing. But, as stated by someone else the rubber seems to go snotty and pap and cannot be clamped...

    Re: Land rover Discovery 1

I have a 300Tdi in CT that, while not trying to actively sell, is for sale at around R40k onco. It was one of the last Tdi's and I bought it in around 2000 as a demo and it has more than 300k km on...

    Re: My Namibia Trip Report

Great and honest report thank you - many of us know the feeling of apprehension and depression around vehicle and terrain challenges. I was forewarned to some extent and went as light as possible...
  25. Re: Led lenser - crap product - crap after sales service

Thanks for this - I have an old H7 (and a few Petzels and Black Diamond) that works fine but need a new workshop torch and was looking at LEDLenser but they are pricey. Maybe the newer ones are not...
  26. Re: New Touareg. Endless problems and Terrible service

Very disappointing from VW. I don't own one but have had two trouble free Polo's, two Golf's and a Jetta in the family.

As others have said I reckon dealer failure. These motors are electronically...

Re: Land Rover Aus loses in court

Well I hope the Caldicott mentioned is no relation to Andy Caldicott who was a top 10 Dakar bike racer, sadly RIP. A tough act, not to be messed around with. :-*

But I agree about LR quality and...

    Re: Poor Customer Service

A complete aside but I had to laugh at the "Saturday morning" note. I once had some welding done and it took longer than anticipated so I was hounding the particular works. The artisan casually told...
  32. Ford & Mazda Re: Extended warranty / warranty & service plan?

Just to give some perspective a 30 000km extension to my Toyota Fortuner 2016 service plan was around R15 000 from Toyota and did not cover items such as brake pads. I haven't taken it.

Defender Re: So my 2.2 puma turbo is blown, what next !

Demmit; not good news but as above, intercooler should have caught big debris but check intercooler to cylinder head for signs maybe. Borescope into heads?

But what do you think caused it and...

Re: Insurance reject stolen vehicle claim.

Thanks for the alert; for what it is worth I think the 6 hour rule is very harsh, easily and reasonably missed and therefore maybe unenforceable in law. As to the contractual experts it does not...
