  1. Re: Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

Gas won't save you money in all situations, but I believe in some cases like this one it will, only 2 people and very controlled.

In a household of 4 or 6 people with a domestic worker a couple...
  2. Re: Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

Ok now to shop around for low pressure gas geysers. It seams my thinking of a 16l for the bathrooms and 8l for the kitchen is good. I tend to want to oversize everything, but from what I understand...
  3. Re: Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

Ek was daai tyd met die DayZero so week by 'n pel van my onder in die Kaap, ek was nog nooit so gevloek soos toe ek op dag 1 die toilet spoel. Daai week was maar 'n gril storie en 'n helse...
  4. Re: Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

First thing I told him as well, a 9 kg will be fine on the kitchen side, but minimum 19 kg on the big geyser, however this shouldn't be a problem, he is still quite fit and able, plus there is help...
  5. Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

I'm helping out a uncle of mine. He wants to save on electricity but his electric geyser anyway needs replacing as well so he has to spend money either way.

    It's a retired couple living in a 4...
  6. Re: Please advise on how to take a church off grid

As already said in the thread, if literally only for 6 light bulbs, then stick to 12V, don't even bother inverting to 230V. 6 LED light bulbs, a roll of cable, a 100W solar panel, small PWM...

Re: Planning to go off grid on electricity

You are a brave man, if I spend that amount of money, I would want to go for something which is tried and tested.

First thing which comes to mind and please understand I'm not knocking the product...

    Re: Gas bottle monitor

Bathroom scale seams to be the only way, though I'm not sure a cheap and cheerful bathroom scale will last if you permanently have a 50 kg weight sitting on top of it. I guess all you can do is try.

Re: Planning to go off grid on electricity

Very interesting that you are going with a super capacitor, I know very little about the technology and Kilowatt Labs brand.

I would like to hear your thinking behind this though since it seams to...

Re: So who is going camping this weekend?

Part of covid rules I'm sure, they clean before you arrive and again after you leave.
It was the same at Kyleu in Dinokeng when we went there 3 weeks ago, they still cleaned the braai and dustban...

Re: Pretoria - Heavy Duty Canvas Places

I would highly suggest you take the tent to them, let them do the measurements and make it accordingly. If you measure wrong, then tough luck and money out of pocket, if they measure wrong, then they...

    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

I think they'll launch the 300 with a new motor, if they keep with the 4.5 V8 then they'll have to change to a new motor somewhere mid cycle and I doubt they'll do that. The alternative will be to...
  15. Re: Where to buy National Luna DC-DC Charger?

Anywhere pretty much, the way National Luna work with their distributors, everyone sticks to the recommended retail price give or take R50 - R100 here and there.
Look online and get a idea of the...

Re: National Luna 25A DC to DC charger

The distance between the 2 batteries is the problem here. If they were right next to each other, sure no problem.

Re: National Luna 25A DC to DC charger

Yes this might be a better option, move the DC-DC to the back close to the battery and then parallel the 2 batteries in the engine bay or maybe put in a switch or solenoid, depending what you'll use...

    Re: Land Cruiser 300 - 3.3L V6 diesel

Ja I first thought that as well, 3.3 is just a very odd number, rather 3.2 or 3.6, something like that, I doubt they'll go under 3l.

Re: National Luna 25A DC to DC charger

A DC-DC charger should be as close as possible to the battery it charges, so I doubt this will work very well. With the 2 batteries so far apart in parallel, cable losses and ultimately voltage...

Re: Struggling Solar panels - Pretoria/Gauteng

If you don't need alarms or the relay output then you can go for the Victron Smart Shunt as well, basically a BMV712 smart without a display so you can only monitor via your phone, but it will save...
  23. Re: Elon Musk - Tesla Battery Day - what to watch for

Interesting that the Tesla share price dropped after the event, apparently the first time this happened, usually it rises.

This might suggest that share holders are tired of these hype events and...
  24. Re: Tires on your trailer / caravan - Best before date?

  27. Re: Tire pressure for overlanding, AfricanBackbone trailer

For tar and normal weekend camping in other words not crazy heavy, I believe in trailer wheels the same as vehicle wheels, 2 bar.
If vehicle gets loaded and trailer has extra water, extra fuel etc....
  28. Re: Advice on DIY lithium configurations for Jimny!

For Victron pricing, try your local Current Automation as well.

  29. Re: Advice on DIY lithium configurations for Jimny!

Rather than the WRND DC-DC, I'd put in a separate DC-DC charger and MPPT solar controller also Victron. Nice thing about this is that they can communicate as per TTT's post and you don't have to buy...

Re: Solar system for off grid camping

There are others in SA who sell second life cells, but as far as I know these are the best price, others are more expensive.
In terms of your Smartsolar 75/15 working, yes it will work...
