    Re: Fly Fishing

The little shop at Brookwood Estate is actually well stocked and prices are decent.
  2. Re: Defender - problems picked up during wheel alignment

I didn't pay further attention to it, bigger fish to fry. Sadly the heads will have to come off in the near future.

Yup, drum brakes at the rear.

Re: Defender V8 - possible diff issue?

I think the diff might be fine after all. I jacked up both rear wheels again and this time around both rotated as I expected that they should. The problem wheel did rotate the propshaft a bit slower...

Re: Defender V8 - possible diff issue?

Yes, that is correct. Both wheels off the ground. Rotating the one makes the other one rotate in the opposite direction but this doesn't work when I rotate the other tyre.

Defender V8 - possible diff issue?

My understanding is that if both wheels are jacked up and you rotate a tyre, the other one should rotate in the opposite direction. But what if only one of the tyres does this? Is it normal or does...

Same here, I have never managed to get stuck after fitting muds.

Also very happy with my Kuhmo MT's. Would recommend them.

Unfortunately this project has been put on hold, focussing on a 2.8i that is close to completion tomorrow. I am not sure when I will be working on the V8 again.

Re: Oh crap! Tube stuck in dipstick hole

I will drop the sump once the oil analysis results come back. Playing is safe incase something went wrong with the sample.

Re: Oh crap! Tube stuck in dipstick hole

The instructions from Overlandworx was that it had to be siphoned from the dipstick hole in order to avoid contamination.

I was scared that whatever solvent I use to clean the pump would contaminate the sample.

Re: Oh crap! Tube stuck in dipstick hole

I have a vacuum pump, didn't use it as it would have contaminated the oil.

It will be interesting to see what actually happened with the pipe to make it get stuck once I have dropped the sump.

Re: Oh crap! Tube stuck in dipstick hole

Fortunately the sump will have to come off in any case. I spotted a rather nasty oil leak while I was down there so the gasket will have to be replaced.

Thanks for all the assistance, much appreciated.

Sump plug wasn't an option as contaminants around the plug might mix with the oil and affect the analysis results.

Pulling out the housing didn't work, it is still stuck.

If the pipe breaks, will the oil filter catch it before it goes into the engine?

Re: Oh crap! Tube stuck in dipstick hole

Yup. I suspect it made a knot in the bottom because I am pulling a vacuum when I suck on the pipe.

Oh crap! Tube stuck in dipstick hole

I tried to siphon some oil from an old V8 Defender with a tube through the dipstick hole. On my 2.8i is was super easy - feed the tube down until it stops and then siphon the oil.

    On the V8 the...
