    Re: Shower Bucket Thievery

They (were) quite unique - metal with a tap and shower head fitted to the bottom. Cables cut - definitely stolen.

But these things were held there by steel cables, not copper wire…must have been a BIG rat.

    Shower Bucket Thievery

To The Complete Jack-Wagon who stole the shower buckets from a number of camp sites in the CKGR:

Most of us come to remote places like the CKGR because we love nature, we love the wildlife, we...

    Re: Rim repair, Maun?

Thanks for all the replies! I like the tube idea - I’ll try to run with that. Crack is across the “bead” on the inside. They had been repaired before (bought them used) - with an epoxy based...

    Rim repair, Maun?

I have a small crack in a Compromotive 18” alloy rim - which is causing an air leak. Would much appreciate any recommendations on who might be able to patch this up in Maun or surrounds? Thanks!!

Re: Rotisserie motor - I need a good one

There are a few battery powered units on Amazon.com that are metal gears. Haven’t owned one so no experience… metal sounds better than plastic near heat though…. They ship them to SA reasonably.

    Re: Large invertor currents

I used a 300a fuse from a car audio shop on the supply to my 3,000w (6,000 peak) inverter- and also some very large cable for the (short) cable run. And drawing from two 104ah blue nova lithium’s.
  13. Re: First time 4x4 buyer - is a dark grey SUV a bad idea?

Those scratches show you’re using the vehicle as designed. Buff out but you do eventually thin the paint. Buff less often…camp more.
  14. Re: Impressions of Wildebeest-sleepers, please!

Don’t know the brand - but just looking at the pics - it’s an entirely different product - an on-road or gravel road caravan at best, so not really comparable in price or application to a conqueror...

    Re: Overlanding in a Fortuner

We’ll be in Bots for 3 weeks from June 6th. Can’t wait!!

Depends what overlanding means to you and how you want the vehicle to work when doing it, as far as overlanding with a daily driver. Our...
  16. Re: Campsite pricing, where do you draw the line?

Relatedly the Pppn methodology irks me. It’s a site, bookable or not. The operator should charge for the site, with a max number of people, and maybe add a pppn charge over and above 2 or 4.

Thank you for all these beautiful pics and the great descriptions. This has just reminded me (not that it needs reminding) that we must get back there ASAP. What a magical place.

Interesting about the gelling issue. I’ve always lived in warm-ish places. I wonder, would an electric blanket, laid over/tucked around the engine, under the hood, prevent this? They draw very...

Re: Rooftop Trailer Tent Setup Times

We’re done in 10 both setup and take down.

Bundutop and bunduawn. But that’s RTT, no trailer, and no groundsheet. Just chairs, table, and light the fire.
  22. Re: LR Valuations by credit bureaux and other magic card tricks

When we insured a 1997 110 TDI we purchased recently, Tuff Stuff stated the insurance book value as R 30,000. They just asked for a bill of sale - insured for R 150,000.

Re: Best tyres for Disco 4

There are (at least) two options:

    2) D3 rims will fit - as I understand it some filing...

    Re: Conqeror water pipe

I have one - bummer you’re in WC. But most places that sell that will sell the tool. It’s small- just holds the pipe and you squeeze it.

Would it even fit? There’s no bloody room around the 3l diesel and the car gets split in half for some maintenance ;)
  32. Re: Land Riover Discovery 4 - looking for feedback from current or past owners

The Lc76 and D4 are just so massively different though. If I was going to spend lots of time in central Africa, I’d certainly not go D4, mostly because they are much harder to work on in a bush...
