  1. Re: Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

My experience: 2 adults, a shower each per day, no domestic, dishwasher runs every second day, washing machine twice a week. 2 x PCs that hardly get switched off. Prepaid at a rate of R1.38 per...

Re: checking castor angle on a 76 Cruiser.

This is what I was trying to say. As you lift the vehicle, you start putting an angle into the radias arm, unless you drop your arm mount on the chassis end. The bigger your angle, the bigger your...
  3. Re: Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

With a constant temp unit, it only heats the water as needed. Feed it 30 deg from a solar heater, it only needs gas to raise it another 12 deg for your shower. I have not had a chance to test them...

Re: checking castor angle on a 76 Cruiser.

Um ja. Big lift will get those arms sitting at an angle. Bigger droop causes bigger angle. Experience I had after that, by loading the backside, casued the nose to lift more, increasing the angle...
  5. Re: Would you go gas or solar geyser in this scenario?

Your gas bottle consideration here, is more about the evaporation rate and adequate gas delivery for the equipment over a 15-20 minute period . In this case, a 9kg and 19kg will both be adequate. I...
  6. Re: Please advise on how to take a church off grid

If its only lights they need, and no other 220v equipment like amps, or a geyser, or kettle to make coffee/tea after the service, then its silly even messing with an inverter and the losses to make...

Re: 2x4 SUVís - whatís their purpose?

True that. Our access road of around 14km gravel, turns into a mud bath with a few sections of 50m at a time that is not under around 50-150mm deep in water. 4x4 is really the way to go, and the...

Re: 2x4 SUVís - whatís their purpose?

When I upgraded my 1400 work bakkie, I wanted an old school robust station wagon. It gave my workers who dr8ve with me a level of comfort the back of a bakkie could not, and the security was somewhat...

Re: Extended Shackle vs Comfort shackles

Realistically, how often does a shackle, or bushes fail? And it is a "captured" mechanism, so it wont just fall apart, leaving your axle laying in the road. It will get all funky with eaten up...

Re: Extended Shackle vs Comfort shackles

My biggest worry with anything longer than what the manufacturer designed, is the horizontal forces that are now supported over a longer distance, and hence more leverage. This will allow the diff to...
  11. Re: Tyres, Mags and Rims: Trade, Buying, Selling, Swap, Give-away or whatever ....

Howzit Guys, looking for a give away if anybody has an old odd one laying about that has a bit of tread I can smash on as a spare for one trip. The Sani has not had a spare since 2008, and never...

Ja, just go check what seperation of the mounts you need. Should be at minimum 25% of your tyre size. Those big wheels mean big seperation on the diff end

Lang arms gaan beter wees. Self op my polly bushes kry ek beter artikulasie as met die blad vere. En portals sit baie twist stress op blad vere.

Re: Double cardan joint or CV for propshaft

XJ, this is where the major difference comes in between a radias arm setup, and a 3 or 4 link. A radias arm just gets the pinion swing around its pivot, and tilt the pinion up as the suspension...
