    Thanks!
Yes thats on the list when I add the volt/amp meter and paint or carpet that panel. Where the cables come into the canopy I have thick rubber grommets where they pass through the aluminium.

    Ozzie Style Camper Build

After 7 or so years of refining my setup of a Hilux double cab bakkie with canopy and roof top tent, the setup was getting old, it was time for a refresh. I first considered a Kamper 2+2, but as I...

    Re: DC-DC Charger Comparison

Not sure where I got the 150watts from, that post was some time ago. Had a look at the manual now and it says recommended solar panel at 50-300 watts, so I recon your two 120 watt panels should work...

Re: Where to buy roof console - Hilux Vigo

Are you sitting down? R7500.00. To be honest I am not sure its worth it at that price. The ones I have seen on online from outside the country go for R2k to R5.5k depending on type.

Re: 2 year solo 4x4 africa exploration

One other point, you can probably get chargers for most laptops, cameras etc that work from 12v cig lighter sockets. Eliminates inverter requirement or can use as backup.

Re: 2 year solo 4x4 africa exploration

Very interesting reading this thread, my 2c:

Consider Oz style canopy. Good compromise in terms of normal canopy versus full camper - Australian Style Tray/Campers. It solves lots of the problems...

    Re: Australian Style Tray/Campers

I have been doing lots of reading and reviewing of these products, the RSI one does really look good. I did notice that the storage box behind the wheel wells looks integrated into the tray. Many of...

Yes I came across their site, having another look it seems they operate out of Thailand. Must be honest not the best looking thing but it seems well made and some thought has gone into the design for...

    Re: Australian Style Tray/Campers

Yes this seems to be how most of them are designed, hence the name "tray and canopy". I think if you do not make it removable, then there is even more flexibility in terms of design and making use...

    Re: Australian Style Tray/Campers

Segal, someone mentioned above that you said the build was expensive. Is that because it was the first time you built something like this or materials or some other factor? I would expect this to...

    Re: Australian Style Tray/Campers

Most of the designs I have seen actually put a drawer in the middle (between the wheel wells) that one can pull out from the rear of the vehicle. Also on either side of the wheel wells are cabinets...

    Australian Style Tray/Campers

I am considering upgrading from my aluminium canopy and was looking at a better integrated solution. I first looked at the likes of fitting a Bushlapa Bosluis or Alucab Ossewa, but they are not only...

Re: Old Postman Route Fenced Off.

I spoke to someone this past week that drove it successfully, so you should be okay.
Take wire cutter/pliers just in case.
  19. Re: Bush camping on banks of Orange river near N1

There is certainly a demand for self sufficient bush camping. With a single stand there will be very low volumes of people and so the toilet facilities become less of an issue. I think the stretch of...

    Re: DC-DC Charger Comparison

I believe the WRND has a newer version out.. have read good reviews here about it. Plus it is also locally designed (and probably manufactured). I recall when I looked people were happy with it.

    Re: DC-DC Charger Comparison

The WRND is a very cost effective option, but being a bit of a tech junkie, I had to have something with a display so I could see what is going on and the WRND didn't have that option, otherwise it...

Right from where that photo is taken, the kraal is right behind. Not sure if the kraal is new or if it was around when you took this photo.
The track was certainly not that clear when I was there......
