Re: Lens for Nikon D40 for wildlife photography

thanks, and I'm trying my hand at post-processing now, using a free tool called Darktable.

My issue is that I don't really know when to stop with the fiddling, because at some point the photo just...

have you checked the condition of the battery itself?

Went on holiday for 3 weeks, and came back to a dead battery in the Puma, silly me forgot to hook up the Ctek before we left. ::)

indeed we did: we saw 5 different leopards during our 5 days there!

Also have a look at the leopards we saw at Thornybush, just before we went to Londolozi:...

Re: Lens for Nikon D40 for wildlife photography

    Did not even notice them!

But thank to you, we looked out for them at Londolozi, where I hired a Nikon 200-500mm lens, and well, the results speak for themselves (I think).

    Still haven't gotten...

Re: Trip to Londolozi Private Game Reserve

They now have ZA rates, which are about 1/3 of the prices that are on the website, IIRC.

Not cheap, but the service, food, etc., is well worth it.

    Thornybush Game Lodge

Spent a few days at Thornybush a couple of weeks ago, it was a very good trip with plenty of sightings of wild dogs, leopards, etc.

Re: Defender Hella Sealed Beams: Where to find?

Don't bother with the old school stuff: fit a decent set of LED headlights and you will never regret it.

TruckLite, Nolden, JW Speaker, etc., are some of the reputable brands

Re: Rangie v8 Supercharged or Diesel?

    10L/100km is pretty amazing TBH.

I just don't have the discipline to drive so slowly. I also find that I tend to get sleepy when driving long distance under 130kmh.

Re: Rangie v8 Supercharged or Diesel?

Not sure about the TDV8, on a recent CPT-JHB-CPT road trip I got around 12.2L/100km. That's on cruise control at 130kmh, and plenty of 160++ overtakes.

Best consumption I got was 11.41, worst was...

Re: Rangie v8 Supercharged or Diesel?

Well, if you can't afford the petrol bill, then yes, the TDV8 is the better choice.

The SCV8 is super efficient on long distance/highway drives. It's the town driving that kills the consumption.

Re: Rangie v8 Supercharged or Diesel?

Exactly, especially if this is going to be a 3rd car that won't be doing many kms or just long distance.

I'd definitely stay away from the SDV6 (we all know why), but the SDV8 is also a great...

Discovery 4 Re: Fuel gauge on my 2017 D4

yep, the newer LRs have an extremely pessimistic fuel range calculation.

I often get told that there's 50km range left, but then only 85L goes in (105L tank), which means I could easily have done...

I don't think so - when I was looking at getting one, I found that most of them did not.
