    Petri, Petri, Petri ....
    OK I know, it's all OK.;)>:D

Let's see if we (Us two) can get this all together.
    Hopefully.
    1. I will buy a...
  2. Re: Breakfast Meeting at 3 Provinces 4x4 Adventure - January 2022

We have been there more recently (Willies memorial weekend) - but a lot can change in just one year with off-road tracks.

I am only considering camping there over that weekend which means getting...
  3. Re: KZN North Coast get-together for a craft beer

Would love to, but a little far to drive for a beer or two.
    ENJOY !!!
Keep the RB thing going ...
In fact KZN seems to be one of the more active areas outside of Gauteng.
    We need to rebuild the...
  4. Re: Breakfast Meeting at 3 Provinces 4x4 Adventure - January 2022

Is everyone overnighting / camping ? What is the capacity of the campsite ? My memory fails me.
I know it is basic and no power but as I recall there used to be plenty fire (not braai) wood...
  5. Re: Breakfast Meeting at 3 Provinces 4x4 Adventure - January 2022

So now just to say ...

We know three Provinces and have been there before with the old Suuz and the small trailer with RTT (Methinks about 2018 or 2016 ish, but may be wrong with the date).
    The...
  6. Re: Elephant kills South African man in Zimbabwe's Mana Pools

When we were last at the campsite at Nyamepi we had elephants and buffalo moving through the campsite especially around dusk.
In fact the buffalo ended up sleeping on site cutting us off from the...
  7. Re: Elephant kills South African man in Zimbabwe's Mana Pools

I also believe, although not applicable in this case, that they are especially sensitive to the sound of a diesel engine since these kind of are most frequently (apparently) used by poachers. No...

Re: Caution when installing a battery

I guess there is a back story to this post ?
    :p
I have increasing difficulty in moving batteries around and, yes dark or difficult access to the area applies.

The worst experience I had was very...

Re: Free wheel hubs - or not ?

Peter - (Good name), Your rationale matches mine exactly.
OK, I am speaking of my very old Isuzu KB.

Fuel consumption is not an issue for me, not sure how relevant that is in this case, but from...
  12. Re: TRIP REPORT: Cape Town to Kruger and back on some roads less travelled.

In spite of the lower density of large animal sightings in the northern parts of KNP we do prefer the mid to northern section due to the general ambiance and relative lack of "human traffic".
    It...
  13. Re: Tyres, Mags and Rims: Trade, Buying, Selling, Swap, Give-away or whatever ....

My old Isuzu 280 KB alloy rims are showing the results of years of off-road track and some "milder" 4x4 tracks.
I suspect cracks or out of round, although wheel balance seems to be OK, so probably...
  14. Re: NL Weekender with 90W solar panel & controller ONLY ?

Yes I will use the old battery in the interim.
When it fails (tick tok) then I will get a larger one but most likely still starter type due to quick re-charge ability mainly (and cheaper to buy)....
  15. NL Weekender with 90W solar panel & controller ONLY ?

I am not sure if this exact question has been sked before or not.

    However, here goes:

With our new setup we no longer have 2x 105 AH deep cycle batteries in the rig or in the bakkie.
    Now...
  16. Re: TRIP REPORT: Cape Town to Kruger and back on some roads less travelled.

Low range, diff lock etc. and about 15 kph. - The other road users will LOVE us, especially those truckers :p
Ja - a different kin of travel for us now ....

Re: BMW/MINI Sandton IS IT A SCAM?

    You're probably right.
    Showing my age AGAIN.
Oh - typo in my post, it was actually an Austin Princess.

I wonder what a small car like that with a Rolls Royce engine would cost today ?
    If I had...

Re: BMW/MINI Sandton IS IT A SCAM?

    On a slight hijack here:

Was there not an Austin Mini 1 000 or maybe 1 200 cc that had a Rolls Royce engine in it?
I seem to recall it named as an Austin Pricess ?

    Just asking.
    My memory may...
  19. Re: TRIP REPORT: Cape Town to Kruger and back on some roads less travelled.

    @Chas
Was that the road up the mountain "behind" Barberton that leads up to the border post into Eswatini ?
It was very badly potholed last time we travelled that way on a day trip to see the...
  20. Re: TRIP REPORT: Cape Town to Kruger and back on some roads less travelled.

Really a nice trip and informative report Pedro.
My butt is itching like you can't believe.
You stayed in some of our most loved KNP campsites too.
Plenty of birds around Pafuri area especially....
  21. Re: TRIP REPORT: Cape Town to Kruger and back on some roads less travelled.

  22. Re: TRIP REPORT: Cape Town to Kruger and back on some roads less travelled.

We have twice camped at Mokala, the first time was shortly after it was changed from a hunting lodge to a SANPB facility.
A lovely campground with individual ablutions and small kitchen for the few...

  27. Eagles View Campsite (Near Wartburg KZN)

We have just spent a great long weekend (extended by one night) at Eagles View about 1.5 - 2 hours leisurely drive from Pinetown.
Easy tow for the old Suuz with the even older Jurgens Slipstream...

Re: Automatic gearboxes and towing heavy loads

That's where "sport mode" is useful - Kicks down sooner, but in my opinion still too late.

We also prefer the more remote etc.
However KNP is disregarded by some due to the unfortunate commercialization going on there.

Re: Trailer with axle to the rear

Agree totally with Wetkit and Andrew although maybe for different reasons.
Yes it does require careful planning on the load distribution to avoid to heavy or light load on the towball.
