Re: Double cardan joint or CV for propshaft

I am slowly making progress. I think I am going to have flanged splined sleeves machined and then get DC joints off a Toyota propshaft. This article explains basically what this guy did....

All I had the energy for today was to take some dimensions of two Colchester taper attachment parts I have.

    The bearing housing with dimensions.

Re: Double cardan joint or CV for propshaft

Will only really help within a small amount of vertical and rotational axle travel. This axle travels a LOT. I always have an argument when I am asked to drive onto these low lifts at a tyre place....

Re: Double cardan joint or CV for propshaft

Yep. He did the original new UJs which lasted 800 km. Then replaced these at his cost. When I asked why they do not last, the answer was simply that what they install is not the same quality as OEM....

Re: Double cardan joint or CV for propshaft

It is not the angle per sae that is the issue. The fact that the relative angle between the two connections are more than 1 degree is the problem. As before ^^^ , TC side is 9 degree and at diff it...

Re: Double cardan joint or CV for propshaft

That is a major job on this Paj. I had a look yesterday. I will rather spend the time to fit DC joints. Then I know the issue will be gone.

Re: Double cardan joint or CV for propshaft

Both propshafts were removed, yoke alignment checked on a PLC controlled propshaft lathe and balanced again on my insistence. That was after lockdown moved to level 3.

Yes, as per above. So much so that the oil seals in the TC are leaking and the bearings in the TC are worn.
  18. Poll: Re: 1953 Colchester Student Mk1 6" gap bed - A restoration project

Double trouble. I am sick with some stomach bug thing and the Pajero's driveshafts needs to be fixed as you can read here.

So it is between bed and crawling below the Pajero! No lathe work.
